Arsenal will attempt to keep alive their slim hopes of winning the Premier League title this season when host midtable Watford in the Premier League on Saturday.

Arsenal ended a fairly poor run of form last time out, as they recorded an impressive 2-0 win at Everton’s Goodison Park. The Gunners goals both came in the first half with Danny Welbeck opening the scoring, before young winger Alex Iwobi scored his first ever Premier League goal.

The victory ensured that the Gunners remained at least in contact with their title rivals. Premier League leaders Leicester are now 11 points ahead of the Gunners in the table, although the north London team does have a game in-hand on the Foxes.

Watford arrives in north London on the back of a poor run of form in the top-flight. The Hornets are currently 14th in the top-flight table, but have won just one of their last five games in all competitions, which was at Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-final.

Quique Sanchez Flores’ team suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Stoke City last time out. The Potters scored goals through Jonathan Walters and Joselu, before Troy Deeney struck a late goal that proved nothing more than a consolation for the Hornets.

Facts And Figures

Arsenal have dominated the Premier League meetings between these two sides winning all five of the meetings, including two on home soil.

Arsenal have been going through a relative poor run of form in recent weeks, but have still managed to score two or more goals in five of their last six outings in the Premier League.

Watford’s poor run of form is illustrated by the fact the Hornets have lost their last three outings in the top-flight. The Hornets have also suffered defeat in four of their last five away games in the Premier League.

Arsenal have won just two of their last nine games in all competitions and three of their last ten top-flight games.

Arsenal have won five out of the last six games against Watford in all competitions. The only blip was the FA Cup quarter-final defeat earlier this month.

Team Selection And News

Arsenal are still missing a number of key players for this clash. Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Santi Cazorla and Tomas Rosicky are all set to miss out through injury, while Petr Cech has an outside chance of featuring for the Gunners.

Watford look set to be without third choice ’keeper Rene Gilmartin and defenders Tommie Hoban and Joel Ekstrand through injury.

Possible Arsenal Team Selection

Ospina, Bellerin, Gabriel, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Elneny, Sanchez, Ozil, Iwobi, Welbeck

Possible Watford Team Selection

Gomes, Nyom, Cathcart, Britos, Ake, Jurado, Behrami, Suarez, Capoue, Deeney, Ighalo

Match Prediction

Watford are on a poor run of form and Arsenal’s spirits will be lifted by the win at Everton last time out, so I expect the Gunners to record a victory in this one and gain revenge for that FA Cup quarter-final earlier this month.
