Rock-bottom Aston Villa hosts title chasers Tottenham on Sunday afternoon, with the visitors in dire need of a win in the title race.

Aston Villa suffered another bad day at the office last time out, as the Villans were defeated 4-0 at Manchester City. Sergio Aguero scored a brace, while Yaya Toure and Raheem Sterling also got on the scoresheet.

The defeat was Villa’s fifth in their last Premier League games and leaves them routed to the bottom of the table. The Villans are now nine points away from safety, but in their current form look unlikely to mount a great escape from the drop.

Tottenham are badly in need of a win at the other end of the Premier League table. Last time out Spurs drew 2-2 with title rivals Arsenal. The Gunners took the lead through Aaron Ramsey, before Francis Coquelin was dismissed for Arsene Wenger’s side.

Mauricio Pochettino scored two quick goals just after the hour mark as Toby Alderweireld and Harry Kane found the net. Spurs were denied the win by a 76th minute goal from Alexis Sanchez.

The draw coupled with a Leicester win means that Tottenham are second in the Premier League table and five points behind the Foxes in the top-flight table.

Facts And Figures

The 48 Premier League meetings between these two teams have been relatively even. Tottenham have recorded 18 wins, Villa have won 14 times and 15 games have been drawn.

Villa have had the slight upper hand in the 23 Premier League games played at Villa Park, recording nine victories compared to Spurs six, with eight games resulting in draws.

Tottenham have won eight of the last ten meetings between these two teams in all competitions, with Villa winning just once and the other game finishing in a draw.

Aston Villa have won just twice in their last 28 Premier League matches.

Tottenham have suffered three defeats in their last 28 games in the English top-flight.

Villa have conceded two or more in their last four Premier League games.

Team Selection And News

Aston Villa are still without full-back Jordan Amavi and winger Adama Traore, while Jack Grealish, Carlos Sanchez and Libor Kozak are all struggling with knocks and look unlikely to feature in this clash.

Tottenham have a near fully-fit squad to choose from, with Belgian centre-back Jan Vertonghen the only absentee through injury. The likes of Ryan Mason, Ben Davies and Son Heung-Min will be looking to start this clash, but may have to settle for a place on the bench.

Possible Aston Villa Team Selection

Guzan, Hutton, Richards, Okore, Lescott, Bacuna, Westwood, Gueye, Veretout, Gestede, Ayew

Possible Tottenham Team Selection

Lloris, Walker, Alderweireld, Wimmer, Rose, Dier, Dembele, Lamela, Alli, Eriksen, Kane

Match Prediction

The home side have been very poor for much of the campaign and it seems unlikely that their luck will change against Spurs. Pochettino side were in good form prior to the last two league games, but I believe the north London team will get back to winning ways against the struggling Villans.
