Venue and Prize Money

TPC Four Seasons Resort, Irving, TX • Purse: $7,300,000

The AT&T Byron Nelson tournament needs no introduction to Golf enthusiasts – being one of the premier tournaments. It is held at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas. Incidentally it is one of the two PGA tournaments held in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex – the only metropolitan with the distinction of hosting two PGA Tournaments.

This year AT & T Byron Nelson tournament will be played from 19th May to 22nd May. The total prize money on offer will be US $ 7.3 million, of which the winner picks up $ 1.3 million and 500 FedExCup points.

The tournament is well known for its charity work too having raised more than $ 121 million so far. Established in 1972 this tournament was played at a variety of courses in its early history.

In 1968, the tournament was renamed the Byron Nelson Golf Classic – after the tournament’s first winner Byron Nelson. The Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas Course, which hosts the tournament, measures 7, 166 yards at a par-score of 70. The course was initially designed in 1982 by Jay Morrish with help from Ben Crenshaw and Byron Nelson. It has undergone various changes ever since, under the guidance of Champions Tour player D.A. Weibring.
The Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas Course features large greens, numerous water bodies and fairly spread tree-lined fairways that are a part of various holes. For the participants, the challenge comes mostly in two holes, which are regarded as the toughest.

The par-4 third hole which measures 528 yards has water almost the entire length of the hole, on the right side. The par-4 18th hole measures only 429 yards but the renovation in 2008 left it with a four-pond water cascade to the left of the fairway. Needless to say, several participants over the years have found these challenging.

Last year action saw the Australian Steven Bowditch string together a succession of wonderful plays to close out with a four-shot victory. Bowditch will be eager for an encore in what can be easily described as his adopted home – both his career titles have come in Texas. Hometown favorite Jordan Spieth finished seven-under and will definitely want to make amends this year.

Like every year, this year’s field too brings tough touring professionals to the AT & T Byron Nelson. Noted names like Dustin Johnson, Sergio Garcia and Ernie Els will try to add excitement for the spectators. But leading the pack will be Spieth who is still looking to repeat the highs of 2015 this year.

The Byron Nelson is inarguably one of the iconic tournaments in this part of the world. AT & T have been associated with this tournament since 2015 and has been a big hit with players and spectators alike. The tournament plans to move to the Trinity Forest Golf Course in Dallas in 2019 and hence there will be some nostalgic moments with the current course too. Can Spieth re-discover his Midas touch of 2015 at this tournament?

Golf Tips For The AT & T Byron Nelson

Charley Hoffman world ranked 32 is our first tip for the Byron Nelson. Already a winner in this neck of the woods when winning the Valero Texas open back in April he has decent form around this course as shown with a second place finish last year. he finished behind surprise winner Steven Bowditch who enters the field ready to defend his title. It would need a super human effort for Bowditch to do so as his form has been woeful and will probably miss the cut. Hoffman on the other hand has been there about’s all season and is a confident choice to challenge for the win.

Charley Hoffman to win the AT & T Byron Nelson 25/1 – 2pts each way

Another player who does well round here and is a previous winner in 2011 and a runner up (2013) too is Keegan Bradley. Keegan has had only one top ten all season but that does not put us off. Horses for courses we say and we welcome a return to form. Let’s hope the snake in his hand performs and he putts well. With that said we should get some decent odds on Keegan to win, really we are looking for a place but the win would be a bonus.

Keegan Bradley to win the AT & T Byron Nelson 66/1 – 2pts each way

You may of noticed that we have left out the favourite Jordan Spieth out, we cannot consider him to be a viable bet until we see signs that his putting is back on track. So we will look for some value and pick an outsider to win the Byron Nelson. There are many to consider, for starters from the European Tour Kiradech Aphibarnrat is a likely player. He has turned in to a versatile player wherever he plays and with 4 wins worldwide could easily be right up there. Scott Piercy had a fine players finishing T23 threatened to be a lot better may do so this week. James Hahn is another to consider and is a winner this year on tour and should still be available at goods odds. But we will side with Colt Knost a model of consistency this year in making 15 out of 16 cut. With five top 25’s. He is extremely capable of shooting low as his 63 in the second round showed last week. It should really of been a course record but a bogey on the final hole put paid to that. His T3 at The Players was a magnificent effort and we take him to continue that form into this week and he could be the eventual winner.

So a quick recap with our 3 tips to follow this week at The AT & T Byron Nelson.
Charley Hoffman 25/1 – 2pts each way
