April 5th and 6th UEFA Champions League Quarter Final Betting Preview

We have reached the last eight of the Champions League and some of the biggest teams in European football are set to go head-to-head over two legs to determine who will progress to the semi-finals of competition. Here is our betting preview of those games along with our recommended football tips:

Barcelona v Atletico Madrid (Tuesday, kick-off 19:45) – Live on BT Sport Extra

Barcelona’s 39-game unbeaten record came to an end at the weekend with a 2-1 defeat against arch-nemesis Real Madrid, so the Blaugrana will be looking to get back to winning ways in this clash.

The European champions have eased their way through the Champions League so far this season, winning six out of their last seven games in the competition. The Catalan giants defeated Premier League Arsenal 5-1 over two legs in the round of 16 and will be confident of progression to the last four.

Barcelona have been prolific in front of goal this season and have scored two or more in six of their last seven games in this competition. Luis Enrique’s team have recent history in their favour against Atletico, as they have won their last six meetings with the team from the capital.

Atletico progressed to the last eight with a penalty victory over Dutch champions PSV, but are on a decent run of form suffering just one defeat in their last 11 outings in all competitions. Their form in the Champions League has also been good, as they are unbeaten in their last six outings in the competition.

Diego Simeone’s side are also Barcelona’s closest challengers this season for La Liga, but are still six points behind the Catalan giants.

This game could be a test of Barcelona after their defeat to Real Madrid at the weekend, but I believe the European champions will gain a narrow lead to take into the second leg.

Bayern Munich v Benfica (Tuesday, kick-off 19:45) – Live on BT Sport Extra

Bayern Munich heads into this clash as red hot favourites to progress to the last four of Europe’s elite competition. In fact the Bavarians are one of the favourites to win the competition.

Pep Guardiola’s side are unbeaten in their last five outings in the Champions League and will be highly confident of dispatching their Portuguese opponents in this clash.

Bayern have been prolific in recent seasons in the Champions League and this season has been no different, as the German have scored two or more goals in eight of their last nine outings in this competition.

Guardiola’s side tends to be involved in high-scoring games and there has been over 2.5 goals scored in 11 of their last 13 games in Europe’s elite competition.

The Portuguese visitors arrive in Munich in sensational form, as they have won 19 out of their last 20 games in all competitions. Rui Vitoria’s team are also on a 15-game unbeaten run away from home in all competitions.

They will be regarded as major underdogs in this tie, but over two legs cannot be written-off simply because of that fantastic run of form.

I can see Bayern Munich shading this first leg tie, as they are strong, especially at home, but Benfica could be a dangerous banana skin for Guardiola’s team

Wednesday night

PSG v Manchester City (Wednesday, kick-off 19:45) – Live on BT Sport Europe

Big spending French champions PSG are considered a dangerous threat to the established order in the Champions League and they have already outlined their credentials in the competition this season.

Laurent Blanc’s side have won their last four games in the competition, including defeating reigning Premier League champions Chelsea twice in the round of 16. The side from the French capital have been devastating at home and abroad in front of goal and have scored at least two in their last four outings in this competition.

Blanc’s side have won six out of their eight outings in this competition this season, with Spanish giants Real Madrid the only side to have beaten them.

Manchester City’s form has been inconsistent this season, but the Citizens got back to winning ways with a 4-0 thumping of Bournemouth in the Premier League on Saturday. The win coincided with the return to the team of attacking midfielder Kevin de Bruyne, who was a key player for City before being injured.

City made it through to the last eight in uninspiring style by beating Ukrainian side Dynamo Kiev 2-1 on aggregate. City have shown decent form in the Champions League this season, losing just once to Italian champions Juventus in the group stage.

City’s away for, in this competition has been pretty good of late, as Manuel Pellegrini’s men have won three out of their last four games on their travels in this competition. The Citizens have also suffered just one defeat in their last seven away games in all competitions.

City did show improvement last time out, but for me the French side will be far too strong for a City side that has not been performing to the best of their ability. I can see the home side winning this one.

Real Madrid v Wolfsburg (Wednesday, kick-off 19:30) – Live on BT Sport Extra

Real Madrid head into this clash on the back of a fantastic 2-1 win at Barcelona in El Clasico. Their recent form has been superb, as Zinedine Zidane’s team have now claimed six straight victories in all competitions.

The men from the Spanish capital have also won their last five games in this competition, so have to be seen as one of the main contenders to lift the trophy. Zidane’s team are another team that has been prolific in this competition, scoring two or more in their last four outings.

Los Blancos have not been bad at the defence either in the Champions League, keeping seven clean sheets in their last eight games in Europe’s elite competition games in Europe’s elite competition.

Wolfsburg are enduring a poor campaign in the Bundesliga, but their run to the quarter-final of this competition has been their saving grace. The Wolves made it through to the last eight by defeating Belgian side Gent 4-2 on aggregate in the last round.

The German side’s recent form in the Champions League has been in contrast to their domestic form, as they have won their last four games in this competition. However, they head into this clash very much as underdogs.

Real Madrid have been in imperious form of late and I can see that good form bringing Zidane’s team a relatively comfortable victory in this clash.
