Kick Off – 15.00pm Saturday 19th December 2015

Struggling reigning Premier League champions Chelsea host Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on Saturday, as both teams look to escape the relegation battle.
The champions now look to be in the fight for survival this season. The Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat at league leaders Leicester last time out. Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez gave the Foxes a two goal lead, before substitute Loic Remy got a goal back for the Blues with just 13 minutes remaining.
Jose Mourinho’s side are currently dangerously close to the relegation zone in 16th position, just one point clear of the drop zone. The Blues have claimed just one win from their last six league games, suffering four defeats in that same period of time.
Sunderland suffered a second consecutive Premier League defeat last time out, losing 1-0 at the Stadium of Light against Watford, as in-form striker Odion Ighalo scored the only goal of the game. The defeat will have been a disappointing one for Sam Allardyce’s side, who had threatened to put together a run of form prior to the previous defeat against Arsenal.
The Black Cats will kick-off this game in 19th position in the Premier League table, but are just two points away from safety.

Chelsea has dominated the 28 Premier League meetings between the two teams, recording 20 wins. Sunderland has claimed just six victories and there has also been two draws.
The Blues have also dominated the Premier League meetings at Stamford Bridge, winning 11 of the 14 games played. The Black Cats have claimed just three wins in those 14 meetings.
Sunderland has won just two of the last ten meetings between the two teams in all competitions and one of those came after extra-time in the league cup in 2013.
Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has faced Chelsea counterpart Jose Mourinho on ten occasions, losing seven and drawing the other three meetings. He has never beaten the Portuguese boss in competitive action.
Sunderland has lost five out of their last six Premier League games on their travels.

Team Selection & News

Beleaguered Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has a relatively clean bill of health heading into this vital game. Last season’s star player winger Eden Hazard is carrying a slight knock and so is striker Radamel Falcao.
The visitors are without set-piece specialist Sebastian Larsson, as the Swedish international has been ruled out until January by a knee injury. Centre-back Younes Kaboul and central midfielder Lee Cattermole are also doubts for the Black Cats. Striker Jermain Defoe may return to the starting line-up in place of youngster Duncan Watmore.

Possible Chelsea team line-up: Courtois, Ivanovic, Zouma, Terry, Azpilicueta, Matic, Fabregas, Pedro, Oscar, Willian, Costa

Possible Sunderland team line-up: Pantilimon, Yedlin, Coates, O’Shea, Jones, Van Aanholt, M’Vila, Rodwell, Toivonen, Defoe, Fletcher

Chelsea v Sunderland Match Prediction

Mourinho’s men are in desperate need of three points in this clash and I believe they may just scrape a win. The Black Cats form on the road is poor and their recent form is as well, so I cannot see them pulling-off an away win in this clash.
