Everton host relegation-threatened Newcastle at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, as both teams look to get back to winning ways in the top-flight.
Everton have experienced Capital One Cup heartache and also won through to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 3-0 win at Carlisle within the last week. The display against Carlisle was much more assured than their last Premier League outing, which they lost 2-1 at home to struggling Swansea.
The defeat left Everton in 12th position. The Toffees are now within equal touching distance of the top-six and the relegation zone, so this game could be a defining one for Roberto Martinez’s men in the Premier League.
Newcastle suffered a 2-1 defeat at Watford last time out in the Premier League, which means they have been dragged back into the Premier League relegation zone. The Magpies are two points from safety.
Steve McClaren’s side have lost four of their last six top-flight games and despite Everton’s recent struggles this will be a tough game for the side from the north east.

Recommended Betting Tip

Newcastle boss Steve McClaren does not have a great record against the Toffees either, having faced them 12 times. The Magpies boss has claimed three wins and three draws, but also suffered six defeats against the men from Merseyside.
Everton have won just one of their last ten Premier League games, but that one victory came at Newcastle on Boxing Day earlier this season.
The Magpies have been poor on their travels of late and have suffered defeat in 14 of their last 17 away games in the Premier League.

Tim Krul, Massadio Haidara, Kevin Mbabu, Vurnon Anita, Cheick Tiote, Gabriel Obertan and Papiss Cisse all miss out through injury, while Siem de Jong, Jack Colback and Paul Dummett are all doubts. Andros Townsend may make his Newcastle debut.

Everton v Newcastle Match Prediction

Both these teams are in poor form at the moment, but Everton’s 3-0 win and clean sheet at Carlisle will have given the team the lift they needed and I can see the Toffees winning this game and in the process doing the double over the Magpies.
