Horse Racing Tips At Ascot, Haydock, Redcar and Newmarket

Todays Top Tip

As always on a Saturday the fields are larger and the quality better. Ascots Shergar Cup meeting is very interesting due to the jockey draw and therefore, almost every horse running today will have a new jockey on its back. Even taking this into consideration the bet of the day has to be Double Up in the 12.55. Running absolutely fantastically at the moment the horse was unlucky not to have another 1 in the column after the second place at Glorious Goodwood. The horse has to be held up for a late burst and will need a decent pace, however, we at BOUK can only see 1 winner.

While we are on the subject of Ascot, should Melvin The Great get a run in the mile race (currently first reserve) he may well be overpriced!

Result: Unfortunately, the format of the day cost Double Up its chance. DU’s Australian rider broke the starting gate as is the way of Australian / North American Jockeys do, but then reined DU back as he needs a fast pace to aim at and the horse was then never really travelling comfortably thereafter. I will certainly consider DU again next time out as there was no suggestion that he is at the limit of his ability.

Next Best

Due to the quality of the meetings today we are chancing 2 next best bets today. The first one is Roxy Star in the 15.25 Haydock. William Haggas filly deserves her shot at Listed Class being unbeaten in 3 starts and although having to improve – we believe that it is most definitely possible!

The second Next Best selection is Hidden Rebel in the 15.55 Redcar. An absolute model of consistency HR has won its last 2 with last months victory at Redcar, with ears pricked, showing that we at BOUK believe she is still ahead of the handicapper. To strengthen the case, the second last time out, Run Fat Lass Run, duly went and won next time out.

Result: A very short word on Roxy Star – disappointing. Only a watching brief next time out. Hidden Rebel, however, was very unlucky not to land the hat trick. HR is a little bit quirky and has to be delivered close to home which PJ managed to achieve hitting the front with just under a furlong to go, unfortunately, for us, the downgraded favourite came with a late run to get up close to the line. Definitely consider HR again next time out as I believe he can still progress.

Race to Watch

With Newmarket on it is well worth watching the Maiden at 14.00. A complete field of newcomers will be a race to watch and rewind and watch again for future clues. The selection is Farandine each way with Lemos De Souza in the plate. Although Cumani newcomers tend to need a run, it is not impossible for the stable to have first time out runners that perform well and Lemos is not immune to being on when they are more forward than expected.

Current odds for Farandine in the 14.00 at Newmarket is SP with Corals
Result: Well, as with Fridays RTF pick we managed to finish an excellent 2nd. Available around 16/1 in the morning Farandine eventually returned 9/1 with a very late plunge taking the price from 12’s to 9’s right before the off. As with Friday we were no match for the winner on the day but we know with Luca’s horses they are very rarely fully tuned first time out so Farandine is a must to consider next time (as would be Luca’s other runner My Favourite Thing). Also, the money on the day was for Charlie Hills other runner, Sepal, who went off a very well backed favourite, however, after missing the break slightly, Sepal was then very green but did finish to some affect and would also need to be considered. All in all this race could be one to follow as predicted.
