Manchester City entertain Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday in the Premier League, as the two teams battle it out for a Champions League spot.

Manchester City suffered a 4-2 defeat at Southampton last time out. Young Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho scored a brace, but a hat-trick from Senegalese winger Sadio Mane and a strike from Shane Long gave the Saints maximum points on the south coast.

The defeat leaves City fourth-place in the table, but nervously looking over their shoulders with arch-rivals Manchester United five points behind the Citizens with a game in-hand.

Arsenal moved above City in the Premier League last weekend with a nervy 1-0 victory over struggling Norwich City at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners broke the deadlock on the hour mark through a strike from substitute Danny Welbeck.

A win in this clash would confirm at least a top-four finish for the Gunners this season, although Arsene Wenger’s men will be looking to finish in third and automatically qualify for the Champions League without a qualifier.

Facts And Figures

Arsenal have dominated the 37 Premier League meetings between these two teams by recording 23 victories. Eight games have finished in draws and Manchester City have recorded six victories.

The 18 Premier League meetings at City have been a similar story, as the Gunners have recorded 11 victories, while City have won five times and two games have finished in draws.

Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini has a poor record against Arsenal. The Chilean has faced the Gunners on ten occasions, winning just once, drawing four times and suffering five defeats.

Manchester City have scored at least two goals in five of their last six outings in the Premier League.

The Citizens have won three out of their last four home outings in the Premier League, but lost three out of their last seven on home soil in the top-flight.

Arsenal are unbeaten in the Premier League in their last eight games.

There has been under 2.5 goals scored in Arsenal’s last four games in the Premier League.

Team Selection And News

Manchester City have been dealt a big blow with the absence through injury of Spanish playmaker David Silva, while fellow midfielder Yaya Toure remains a doubt. City boss Manuel Pellegrini is likely to pick his strongest team, after resting players in the lost at Southampton last time out.

Arsenal are close to their full complement, but still have doubts over the fitness of midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and centre-back Per Mertesacker. Gabriel could replace the latter if he fails to recover.

Francis Coquelin could return to the starting line-up for Aaron Ramsey and Danny Welbeck may be preferred to Olivier Giroud up front.

Possible Manchester City Team Selection

Hart, Sagna, Otamendi, Kompany, Kolarov, Fernandinho, Fernando, Navas, De Bruyne, Sterling, Aguero

Possible Arsenal Team Selection

Cech, Bellerin, Gabriel, Koscielny, Monreal, Elneny, Coquelin, Sanchez, Ozil, Iwobi, Welbeck

Match Prediction

This should be a highly interesting clash with the two teams competing for the same goal. City are in need of a win, but have not been great of late in the top-flight, but neither have Arsenal. I can see this clash finishing in a tight draw.
