Manchester City host Stoke at the Etihad Stadium in Sunday’s lunchtime kick-off in the Premier League, as the home look to move closer to sealing a top-four spot this season.

Manchester City drew 1-1 at Newcastle last time out in the Premier League. The Citizens took the lead through Sergio Aguero, but the Magpies hit back through full-back Vurnon Anita and recorded a what could be a valuable point.

The draw did Manuel Pellegrini’s sides hopes of securing a top four finish no favours, as the likes of West Ham and Manchester United recorded valuable midweek victories.

City striker Aguero has now scored 22 goals in the Premier League and will is likely to be in the hunt for the Premier League golden boot award once again.

Stoke suffered a 4-0 home hammering against Tottenham last time out in the Premier League. A brace each from Dele Alli and Harry Kane condemned the Potters to a consecutive Premier League defeat.

The defeat leaves Stoke in ninth place in the Premier League table and the Potters now look to have little left to play for this season with their campaign petering out.

Facts And Figures

These two teams have met on 15 occasions in the Premier League, With Manchester City recording seven wins, Stoke winning three times and five games finishing in draws.

The Citizens have dominated the seven Premier League meetings at the Etihad Stadium between these two teams, recording six wins and Stoke have claimed just one win.

Stoke have won two of the last ten meetings in all competitions, but both of those wins have come in the last three meetings, including a 2-0 win in the reverse fixture.

Stoke have won just one of their last six games in the Premier League. The Potters have also conceded two more goals in their last three top-flight outings.

There has been over 2.5 goals scored in 13 of Manchester City’s last 15 home games in the Premier League, although there has been under 2.5 goals scored in five of the last six meetings between these two sides.

Team Selection And News

The home side have doubts about the fitness of full-backs Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna, as well as attacking midfielders David Silva and Samir Nasri. Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho could replace compatriot Fernando, while Raheem Sterling could come in for Fabian Delph.

The visitors have a number of problems heading into this clash. Goalkeeper Jack Butland, full-back Glen Johnson and experienced forward Jonathan Walters are all out through injury. Dutch full-back Erik Pieters will miss out through suspension, while defender Marc Wilson and Xherdan Shaqiri are also doubts.

Possible Manchester City Team Selection

Hart, Zabaleta, Mangala, Kompany, Kolarov, Toure, Fernandinho, Navas, De Bruyne, Sterling, Aguero

Possible Stoke City Team Selection

Given, Cameron, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Muniesa, Imbula, Whelan, Afellay, Bojan, Arnautovic, Diouf

Match Prediction

Stoke recent form has been poor and City’s form has been reasonably good of late, despite that draw last time out. I can see City recording a comfortable victory in this clash and continuing their pursuit of a top four spot.
