Manchester United hosts Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday in the Premier League, as the home side look to keep the pressure on arch-rivals Manchester City at the top of the table.
The home side have claimed consecutive Premier League victories and last time out won 3-2 at Southampton, courtesy of a brace from new signing Anthony Martial and a goal from Juan Mata.
The victory on the south coast saw Louis van Gaal’s men move to within two points of arch-rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table. A win could take the Red Devils to the top of the table, if City loses at Spurs in the early kick-off.
Spanish playmaker Mata has been a key player for United this season, scoring twice and also collecting two assists. Young striker Martial has started his United career with a bang and has scored three goals in three appearances in all competitions for United.
Sunderland has made a torrid start to their campaign, failing to win any of their league games and picking-up just two points in the Premier League. The Black Cats have suffered consecutive Premier League defeats and failed to score in either of those defeats.
Last time out Dick Advocaat’s side were beaten 2-0 by Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium, as goals from Callum Wilson and Matt Ritchie within the first ten minutes were enough for the side from Dorset to claim maximum points.
The north east club currently sit bottom of the Premier League table and have the worst goal difference in the top-flight.

Facts And Figures

Manchester United has dominated this fixture in the Premier League era, winning 20 of the 28 games played between these two teams. Sunderland has collected just two wins and has also been six draws.
As you would expect the Red Devils have also had the better of fixtures at Old Trafford, winning 11 of the 14 fixtures between the sides. The Black Cats have just one win at United and there have also been two draws.
Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat has faced United just once in his managerial career and claimed a 2-1 victory as Zenit St Petersburg boss in the 2008/09 European Super Cup.
United boss Louis van Gaal has only ever beaten his compatriot once in nine meetings of the veteran bosses.

Team News

The Red Devils are likely to kick-off the game with the same starting line-up that won at Southampton last time out. England full-back Luke Shaw is recovering from a broken leg, while his international teammate Phil Jones is close to a return to action following a blood clot, but this game may come too soon for the defender.
The visitors are still without summer signing Adam Matthews, who is expected to be sidelined for another few weeks. Former-United defender John O’Shea is also a doubt for the trip to Old Trafford. Dick Advocaat may draft in Lee Cattermole to add some steel in the middle of the park, with Jordi Gomez the player most likely to drop out.

Possible Manchester United line-up: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Rojo, Schneiderlin, Carrick, Depay, Rooney, Mata, Martial

Possible Sunderland line-up: Pantilimon, Jones, Coates, Kaboul, Van Aanholt, M’Vila, Cattermole, Lens, Toivonen, Borini, Defoe

Manchester United vs Sunderland Match Prediction

For me this could be the biggest home banker of the weekend. There may be no value in the home win, so a punt on over 2.5 goals may be the way to go for this clash.

Our Big Match Tip

This should be an easy result for United so get on them winning 3-0
