Struggling Newcastle host Crystal Palace at St James Park in the Premier League on Saturday, as the home desperate look for vital victory in their fight against relegation.

Newcastle came back from two goals down to draw 2-2 at Liverpool last time out in the Premier League. Liverpool looked to be heading for a comfortable victory after goals from Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana.

However, the second half was a different story, as Papiss Cisse and Jack Colback struck to earn the Magpies what could prove to be a very valuable point for the side from the north east.

Rafa Benitez’s team find themselves just one point from safety and north east rivals Sunderland. However the Black Cats do have a game in-hand on the Magpies, as does 18th place Norwich.

Crystal Palace suffered a 2-0 defeat at Manchester United last time out in the Premier League. A Damien Delaney own goal and a goal from Matteo Darmian gave the Red Devils the victory.

The Eagles fans did have something to cheer about last time out though, as the Eagles defeated Watford 2-1 in the semi-final of the FA Cup. Winger Yannick Bolasie gave the Eagles the lead, before Hornets captain Troy Deeney levelled the scores.

Alan Pardew’s side sealed their place in the final with a Connor Wickham effort in the second half. The FA Cup may now be a distraction for the Eagles who are currently 16th and eight points clear of the drop zone, but they look to have accrued enough points not to worry about the drop this season.

Facts And Figures

These two teams have met 11 times in the Premier League, with Newcastle recording six victories, three games resulting in draws and Palace claiming just two wins.

The five Premier League meetings at St James Park have been relatively equal, with Newcastle winning twice, two games finishing in draws and Palace claiming one win.

Crystal Palace boss Alan Pardew has a poor record against Newcastle counterpart Rafa Benitez. The former-Newcastle boss has faced the Spaniard on six occasions and suffered four defeats, winning one and drawing one.

Crystal Palace have won just one of their last 18 Premier League games, although three of their last five outings have resulted in draws.

Newcastle have won just two of their last 12 games in the Premier League.

Team Selection And News

Newcastle have a number of injury problems with ‘keepers Tim Krul and Rob Elliot joined on the sidelines through injury by full-back Massadio Haidara. The likes of Darryl Janmaat, Fabricio Coloccini and Steven Taylor are also doubtful.

Crystal Palace will once again be without Moroccan striker Marouane Chamakh, while centre-back Brede Hangeland also remains a doubt.

Possible Newcastle Team Selection

Darlow, Anita, Mbemba, Lascelles, Dummett, Tiote, Colback, Townsend, Sissoko, Perez, Cisse

Possible Crystal Palace Team Selection

Hennessey, Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare, Jedinak, Cabaye, Zaha, Bolasie, Puncheon, Wickham

Match Prediction

Newcastle have produced very spirited displays in their last two games to draw against Manchester City and Liverpool. Palace have very little to play for in the Premier League and I can see the Magpies recording a much-needed win in this fixture.
