Norwich City and Newcastle United meet at Carrow Road on Saturday in a vital game at the bottom end of the Premier League.

Norwich ended a terrible run of form last time out with a hard-fought 1-0 win at West Brom. Republic of Ireland international Robbie Brady scored the only goal of the game to secure three massive points for the Canaries.

The win lifted them out of the relegation zone, but they are still 17th place and just two points above Sunderland in 18th position. The Canaries have now kept clean sheets in consecutive matches in the Premier League for only the second time this season.

Newcastle remains in the relegation zone after a 1-1 draw with arch-rivals Sunderland in Tyne-Wear derby last time out. Jermain Defoe struck the opening goal for the Black Cats, before Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic scored a vital late equaliser for the Magpies.

The draw means that Rafa Benitez’s side are still stuck in the relegation zone and three points behind Norwich with worst goal difference. The north east side simply cannot afford to lose this game or they could be facing a long road back to safety.

Facts And Figures

These two teams have clashed 13 times in the Premier League, with Newcastle winning seven times, Norwich recording three wins and three games finishing in draws.

The six Premier League meetings at Carrow Road have seen Norwich record three wins, Newcastle win just once and two games finishing in draws.

Norwich have failed to win in their last five home games in the Premier League and have conceded two or more goals in four of those games.

Newcastle have lost their last seven away games in the Premier League and have failed to score in five of their last seven away games as well.

Newcastle have also won just one of their last six Premier League matches.

Team Selection And News

Norwich are without midfielder Emmanuel Tettey and winger Nathan Redmond, who both have ankle injuries. Defenders Ryan Bennett and Steven Whittaker, as well as forward Steven Naismith are doubts for the clash.

The visitors have a number of injury concerns heading into this vital game. First choice goalkeeper Tim Krul and full-back Paul Dummett are out injured, while midfielder jack Colback is out through suspension.

Fabricio Coloccini is a huge doubt, while Massadio Haidara, Gabriel Obertan, Yoan Gouffran and Sylvain Marveuax are also doubts for the clash.

Possible Norwich City Team Selection

Ruddy, Martin, Bassong, Klose, Olsson, Jarvis, O’Neil, Howson, Brady, Bamford, Mbokani

Possible Newcastle United Team Selection

Elliot, Janmaat, Mbemba, Lascelles, Mbabu, Shelvey, Wijnaldum, Townsend, Perez, Sissoko, Mitrovic

Match Prediction

Norwich have produced far better performances in their last two games in the top-flight and will have been given a massive lift by that win at West Brom. Newcastle fans will be hoping that the new manager syndrome kicks-in slightly late.

I can see the home side just slightly edging this clash and putting the Magpies into even deeper trouble at bottom of the table.
