The European Tour heads to Germany this week for the Porsche European Open. The 2016 edition of this prestigious tournament will be played between September 22nd and 25th and will be contested at the Bad Griesbach’s golf and spa resort.

With the European season close to finishing, most of the players are jockeying for a safe position to secure playing rights for next season as well as a chance to sneak a spot at the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai. What an interesting prelude to the tournament we have on our hands!

The tournament will be played at the Beckenbauer Golf Course which shares a unique place in the history. Bernhard Langer teamed up with footballing legend Franz Beckenbauer to produce this unique golf course. The talents and vision of the players will be put to test in this course amidst the background of the wonderful Bavarian landscape. The speciality of the course lies in the hand cut greens and perfect fairways over 7, 108 yards.

The strategically placed bunkers and water hazards add to the difficulty making it a tougher test for even the best of the players across the globe. That should explain why this course holds a position of respect within Europe. Coming to the course, every player will remember the holes on the 9th and the 18th where the challenge comes from the natural features of the streams, ditches and greens that are protected by water.

The Porsche European Open for this year has once again attracted some of the best players with Martin Kaymer – a former world number one and a double major tournament winner, headlining the roster. This will be his debut at Bad Griesbach and his only performance on German soil in 2016. Back him to make his home audition successful – a possible top-five in the reckoning for the home favourite.

Giving him strong company from the local contingent will be Marcel Siem who is currently recovering from a serious shoulder injury that forced him to take a break from the sport. Also lining up in the competition will be Peter Hanson and Robert Karlsson from Sweden with both looking good for a decent showing.

Keep an eye out for the English duo – Chris Wood and Matthew Fitzpatrick. Wood is currently number five in the race to Dubai and should be a top bet for a crack at the top five.

Spaniards Rafa Cabrera-Bello and Miguel Angel Jimenez, while Andrew Johnston and Andy Sullivan will also be lining up this week in what promises to be an exciting line-up. There’s also strong representation from Asia with the 2009 PGA Championship winner Y.E. Yang from Korea competing alongside three current European Tour winners – Wu Ashun and Li Haotong from China along with Jeunghun Wang from Korea.

There’s also an additional attraction in the form of a Porsche Panamera 4S for the first player to achieve a hole-in-one at the 17th hole during the tournament. The Porsche Open was revived in 2015 and this year’s action promises to be one of the best.
