Betting Preview Of Euro 2016 Final – Portugal vs France

Tournament hosts France will take on Portugal Sunday night in Paris in the final of Euro 2016.

Portugal produced a comfortable win over an under-strength Wales in the semi-finals, but are underdogs to win this clash at odds of 15/4 with Ladbrokes.

The Selecao made it to the final by defeating Wales 2-0 in the last-four. The first half was goalless, but Portugal came out the stronger in the second half. Cristiano Ronaldo headed his team into the lead on 50 minutes, before Nani diverted a long-range effort from the Real Madrid man past Wayne Hennessey just three minutes later.

Portugal are now unbeaten in seven international outings, although five of those games have finished in draws.

Ronaldo and Nani have both now scored three times in France and both have an outside chance of winning the Golden Boot, although final opponent Antoine Griezmann is the favourite to claim the accolade.

Tournament hosts France made it through to the final by defeating world champions Germany 2-0 in Marseille and are favourites at odds of 1/1 with Coral to win this clash.

Les Bleus took the lead in first half stoppage-time, Griezmann scoring from the penalty spot after Bastian Schweinsteiger had handled Patrice Evra’s header in the box.

The Atletico Madrid star doubled his goal tally on 72 minutes scoring from close-range, after Manuel Neuer had made a hash of a Paul Pogba cross.

Griezmann is now top scorer at the tournament with six goals and unless something extraordinary happens in this clash will win the aforementioned Golden Boot award.

France’s recent record in international football is highly-impressive, as Didier Deschamps team have now won 14 of their last 16 international outings. Les Bleus are also the top scorers at the tournament, having scored two or more goals in five of their six games at Euro 2016.

Past Meetings

These two teams have met 24 times in international fixtures, with France recording 18 wins, compared to Portugal’s five, with one game finishing in a draw.

The recent record does not bode well for Portugal, as the hosts have recorded ten consecutive wins over the Selecao. Portugal’s last win over Les Bleus came 41 years ago in a friendly clash. However, they have lost every meeting since.

The last time these two teams met in competitive action was in the World Cup semi-final in 2006, when France won 1-0, courtesy of a Zinedine Zidane penalty kick.

Team and Selection News

Portugal are close to full strength, but Real Madrid centre-back Pepe missed the semi-final win over Wales and is still doubtful for this clash. If he fails to recover then fellow veteran centre-back Bruno Alves is likely to start alongside Jose Fonte in defence.

Midfielder William Carvalho is available again following suspension and could replace Danilo in the defensive midfield role.

France are likely to name an unchanged side from the one that started against Germany. The likes of N’Golo Kante and Adil Rami are likely to have to settle for a place on the substitute’s bench.

Possible Portugal team line-up: Rui Patricio, Cedric, Fonte, Alves, Guerreiro, Carvalho, Sanches, Moutinho, Adrien, Nani, Ronaldo

Possible France team line-up: Lloris, Sagna, Koscielny, Umtiti, Evra, Matuidi, Pogba, Sissoko, Griezmann, Payet, Giroud

Portugal have failed to impress throughout this tournament, although it seems that Cristiano Ronaldo has finally came to the party. France have looked dangerous going forward and I can see Didier Deschamps side winning this game.
