Racing Tips Saturday 23rd April 2016

by 23rd April 2016

Saturdays racing tips come from that meetings at Doncaster and Haydock. With our top tip running in the 19.35 Doncaster. Tips and best odds at

Mardale duly beat the Gordon Elliott favourite for us yesterday as predicted and returned an excellent 4/1. Glingerside was a non runner while Colour My World may have placed had he not been hampered in the final furlong.

Loads of racing today with afternoon turf flat action at Haydock, Leicester and Ripon in the UK and Limerick in Ireland, with the evening action on the turf at Doncaster and Wolverhampton on the tapeta.

The premier meeting of the day, however, is the jumps season finale at Sandown where Richard Johnson will finally get his hands on his much deserved first Jockeys Championship title and the titanic Nicholls and Mullins trainers battle goes to the wire.

As for selections and thoughts ……

This is not a great card for a Grade One track, but our selection goes in the 19.35 and it is Lavetta who is going for the double under a penalty, for both the owners, the stable and us!

Back Lavetta in the 19.35 Doncaster – Best odds of 10/3 with William Hill

Our final 2 selections of the day run on this card, but as with Doncaster the card is competitive but lacking in real star quality.

14.10. Back to 7 furlongs, back on good ground and reunited with Jack Garritty – Right Touch looks absolutely certain to run a big race for the Fahey stable which has started this season as good as ever.

Recommended Betting Tip

Back Right Touch each way in the 14.20 Haydock – Best odds of 8/1 with Bet365

15.55. Sir Roderic won well on seasonal debut at Windsor and I know the Millman stable think that SR is a well handicapped animal – we will find out today.

16.00 King Richard III Stakes Listed Race. This is a cracker of a race which lights up an otherwise average card. Plenty of decent types with proven group performers and potential improvers. The form horse is undoubtedly Home of the Brave for the Palmer stable but he is priced accordingly at 7/4 and although showing decent group form last year I am going to favour the potential of Mitchum Swagger on only his fifth start, currently around 6/1.

Not a bad card with a couple of bonus maidens and the 16.15 listed contest over 1m 4f. The O’Brien stable has hit the ground running which is not always the case so Bondi Beach has to be top of all considerations. However, like the listed race at Leicester there are some potential improvers and horses with possible fitness on their side, so, Radanpour ought to give BB a race.

14.00 Class 2 Juvenile Hurdle. Tricky contest this with Voix Du Reve for the championship chasing Mullins stable trying to bounce back from a fall last time out but tops the ratings, although Ashoka for the Skelton stable a lively challenger.

14.55 Grade 2 Oaksey Chase. A really poor turnout for this Grade 2 and picking the winner will not be easy as recent, decent form is lacking. Valseur Lido for Mullins is the token choice.

15.35 Grade 1 Celebration Chase. Vastly different field to the previous graded race as this is choc full of in form top class animals. Sprinter Sacre looks set to confirm Queen Mother Championship Chase form with Un De Sceaux and Dodging Bullets. Sire De Grugy, Solar Impulse and Uck Du Lin make up the rest of the field and although probably out classed up against Sprinter and Un De Sceaux they are all decent animals.

16.10 Grade 3 Handicap Chase. The trainers championship could all come down to this. Paul Nicholls relies on Southfield Theatre who has to bounce back from being brought down last time out and I have my doubts about this big field for ST. Willie Mullins runs Measureofmydreams who is also trying to bounce back from a fall last time out. M experience in big field chases gives him the edge over the Nicholls runner but I actually think Theatre Guide for the Tizzard stable and Henri Parry Morgan for the Bowens could be the ones to fight out the finish.

16.45 Listed Hurdle. Vroum Vroum Mag continues the Mullins battalion charge for the title and should win this comfortably.
