Harbour Town GL, Hilton Head, SC • Purse: $5,900,000

The historic RBC Heritage or the Heritage Classic will tee-off at the Harbour Town Golf Links Course from April 14th – 17th at the Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

The tournament was first played in 1969 and has total prize money of US $ 5.9 million. The winner takes home US $ 1.06 million and 500 FedExCup points, which should be a considerably good incentive to go along with the history of the tournament.

The Harbour Town Golf Links Course measures 7, 101 yards with a par score of 71 and is widely considered to be a benchmark in modern design for golf courses. No wonder this course receives accolades, as the course was designed by famed golf course architect Pete Dye with assistance of the legendary Jack Nicklaus. The course manages to retain its reputation for putting forth a stern test despite one of the shortest layouts on the PGA Tour.

The challenge on the course is very strategic with the narrow fairways and small but deftly contoured greens making it tough for the competitors all through. It will take more than skill for the players to come through because only well-positioned shots will bring birdie chances at this venue.

Live oaks and pines will be waiting in the greens to put a spanner in the works, just in case the players lose track with poor drives. Adding a touch of regality and history is the Harbour Town’s iconic red-and-white lighthouse, which adds intrigue behind the 18th green.

Coming to the field, there will be disappointment for defending Champion Jim Furyk who won’t be coming back to retain his title. Furyk is still recuperating from his wrist surgery in early February and his appearance will be limited to the ceremonial opening drive across Calibogue Sound.

New world number one Jason Day, who is already a two time winner in 2016, will be the main attraction along with Zach Johnson. Five-time champion at this tournament Davis Love III is also in the fray, marking it his 28th Heritage start – just two short of Jay Haas’ record.

His last win came way back in 2003 and it won’t be any easy for him this year. Marking the local attraction will be Bryson DeChambeau who will be making his professional debut at the Harbour Town. The talented American has already been etched into the record books as just the fifth man to win U.S. Amateur and NCAA crowns in the same year.

Last year saw Furyk ended a near five year victory drought in breathtaking fashion, first charging into a play-off and then dispatching Kevin Kisner. After his last year’s which nearly brought its first home-state winner, Kisner will be eager to attain that distinction once more. Also in the fray is Luke Donald who has recorded five top-3 finishes in this tournament in the past seven years.

Also adding to the interest is the fact that only six men have won here without spending the prior week at Augusta National, since 1983. Will this trend break this year?

Golf Tips For RBC Heritage

Jason Day will be looking to get over the disappointment of The Masters last week and will look to get straight back on the winners rostrum. He will be a shortish price but the form he has been in he can not be ignored. He was just steady at Augusta and he still finished in the top ten.

Jason Day to win the RBC Heritage 5/1 – 4pts win

For our second tip to win The RBC Heritage we stick with another player who played extremely well in only his second Masters. A young Englishman Matthew Fitzpatrick is making waves in the world rankings and is now up to 39th. He finished with a superb 67 in The Masters to end up in a T7. We take him to continue the good work and we expect big things from him this week.

What a show Bryson DeChambeau put up last week at The Masters to finish top amateur. This guy is the real deal and now that he is turning professional we expect him to pick up a big cheque, could it be first!!! I don’t know how these colleges keep doing it but they are churning out potential winners and possible world number one’s. What price Bryson to win The RBC Heritage, well he is a cracking price at.
