Spanish giants Real Madrid play hosts to Manchester City at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night in the Champions League semi-final second leg, with the tie very evenly balanced.

The goalless draw at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg was not the worst result in the world for Real Madrid, who faced City without star forward Cristiano Ronaldo. Los Blancos will be wary that they did not score an away goal, which may be crucial in such a tight tie.

Zinedine Zidane’s team will be confident of a victory in this clash, as Los Blancos have won their last five Champions League games on home soil and are unbeaten in seven.

Manchester City may have seen the first leg as a bit of a missed opportunity, but the Citizens are not out of this tie yet and only need a score draw to progress to the final. City defied the odds by eliminating PSG in the quarter-finals, but Real are a step up from the French giants.

City will be looking to striker Sergio Aguero to provide the attacking impetus in this clash. The Argentinian has found the net just twice in this competition, but has found his form in the Premier League of late.

Facts And Figures

These two teams have only ever met three times in the history of European competition, with Real Madrid recording one win and the other game resulting in a 1-1 draw. The other game was the goalless draw at the Etihad just over a week ago.

Real Madrid have suffered just one defeat in their last 12 Champions League games. Even more impressive is the fact that Los Blancos have lost just once in 30 home games in Europe’s elite competition.

The Spanish giants have been solid at the back in this competition and have kept clean sheets in five of their last six outings in this competition.

Manchester City are six games unbeaten in the Champions League and have suffered just one defeat in their last five away outings in this competition. The Citizens have also been prolific on their travels in those five matches, finding the net twice or more in four of those games.

Team Selection And News

Real Madrid’s main problems lie with their forward line with both French striker Karim Benzema and the aforementioned Ronaldo both doubtful for the clash. Youngster Lucas Vasquez is likely to continue in attack and Jese may also start if Ronaldo fails to recover.

Manchester City’s only injury concerns come in midfielder, where Yaya Toure, David Silva and Samir Nasri are all rated as doubt to face the Spanish giants. Nasri has missed the last two games through injury.

Possible Real Madrid Team Selection

Navas, Carvajal, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo, Modric, Casemiro, Kroos, Vasquez, Jese, Bale

Possible Manchester City Team Selection

Hart, Sagna, Kompany, Otamendi, Clichy, Fernando, Fernandinho, Navas, De Bruyne, Sterling, Aguero

Match Prediction

Real Madrid are strong at home and shown their dominance in home games for much of the Champions League campaign and I believe they will record a narrow victory in this clash.
