RSM Classic Golf Tips Betting Preview & Odds

by 14th November 2016

A winning week with last week’s golf tips when Alex Noren won the Nedbank at odds of 18/1. Russell Knox also finished 3rd in the OHL Classic to get us a place. So onto this week’s tournament our golf tips come from the RSM Classic as we look for another winning week.

Venue & Prize Fund
Sea Island Resort (Seaside), Sea Island, GA • Purse: $6,000,000

The RSM Classic is a PGA Tour tournament played in Georgia. Having made its debut in 2010, it went by the name of McGladrey Classic until 2015 which was then the sponsors changed to RSM US and hence the name.

The total prize money for the tournament is US $5.7 million. The winner will take home 500 FedEx Cup points and this is the seventh edition of this wonderful tournament which will be played from November 17 – 20. The tournament host is Davis Love III who will hope fond memories of winning the Ryder Cup will inspire him back to winning ways.

Beginning in 2015, the event is played on two courses and the field has expanded to 156 players. One of the courses on which the tournament is played is the Sea Island golf course that measures at 7,005 yards and boasts a par-score of 70. The course has a long history dating back to 1929 when it started as a nine-hole course designed by Harry S. Colt and Charles Alison. It was redesigned by Tom Fazio and brings an aesthetically pleasant look for the players. The beautifully manicured fairways and greens are bordered by wildflowers and bunkers. Together with the wind, the course creates a wonderful experience for the players.

Another course that’s home to the event is the Plantation course. This Rees Jones’ masterful creation combines two 9-hole courses and was originally designed by Walter Travis. Expansive fairways and liberal sightlines between holes make this an equally enticing course for the accomplished and the novice players. The biggest attraction at the Plantation will be the bagpiper at sundown that takes place on the 10th fairway and is one of the most appealing traditions of Sea Island.

The field for this year is pretty strong and is led by Olympic bronze medalist Matt Kuchar and Zach Johnson. They join their U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III as well as Brandt Snedeker. Jim Furyk is also an attraction in a lineup that includes five of the top-35 players in world rankings. And this year’s roster also has quite a few participants who live close to the course. Prominent among them are the former U.S. Open champion Lucas Glover, PGA TOUR winners Harris English, Jonathan Byrd and Brian Harman. For all its history, the tournament is still waiting for its first true hometown winner.

The tournament has a unique record of seeing all United States champions so far. Heath Slocum was the inaugural tournament of this tournament in 2010 while Kevin Kisner is the defending champion from 2015. Also adorning the champions leaderboard are Robert Streb, Chris Kirk, Tommy Gainey and Ben Crane from 2014 downwards to 2011.

Last year’s action saw Kisner winning by six strokes over Kevin Chappell. Incidentally, that was the only time in its short history that the tournament has been decided by more than one shot. Will this tradition continue this year? Will there be a non-American winner? The action promises to be exciting and it is just round the corner. Who will win the RSM Classic read on to get our tips.

Golf Tips For The RSM Classic

Traditionally the RSM Classic throws up a big priced winner and with that in mind we will look for value bets this week. After a great week with an 18/1 winner and a 3rd place finish at 14/1 we look to continue the trend in being in profit. To maximise our chances we will be backing all selections with Paddypower this week as they are going 7 places. So on to our first tip and we have selected Cody Gribble who just missed out at the OHL Classic when finishing T15. It show he is still in good nick and at odds of 50/1 is worthy of a decent bet.
Two points each way.

James Hahn is another that we have backed recently and on a couple of occasions has been right up there until bad final rounds has cost us at big prices of 150/1 and 80/1. He is slightly shorter this week at 66/1 but still must be backed. We want to see him in the winners enclosure again just to see him dance around on the green again. Go James!!!
Two points each way.

Our outsider for the RSM classic goes to an old favourite of ours in Scott Stallings. He had a fine few weeks in the Web.com finals to secure his card and is overpriced at 175/1. He can prove hard to win with but really we are after a place at those odds with 7 places on offer.
One point each way.
