Shenzhen International Preview, Tips and Odds

So close last week with Paul Dunne just missing out on the win in Morocco when losing the first play-off hole against Eduardo Molinari. But still paid a very nice 12.5 to 1 for the place. The Spaniard Pablo was right there to, but a poor back nine cost us the place on him. So onto this weeks European Tour golf tips.

The European Tour heads to China this coming week after a successful Trophee Hassan in Morocco. Soomin Lee returns as defending champion but he will find things tough, with a whole host of big names heading across to the event. The biggest name is undoubtedly two-time Masters Winner Bubba Watson, who tries to win the event for the third consecutive season. With both the European Tour and PGA Tour suffering last week due to the Masters recovery period, it is great to see this event so well supported, something that should make for a great week of golf.

Last year Soomin Lee claimed his first European Tour victory by winning this event, with a final score of 16 under. The event went to five days because of weather delays and when you consider that Lee still managed to score 16 under, despite the bad weather that shows how low you can score here. I’m expecting the same again this year, with birdie opportunities all over this course.

While Bubba Watson comes into the tournament as the big name on show, he also has a great chance of winning this. His two previous visits have resulted in 29th place in 2015, 8th place in 2016 and now the 38-year-old is looking to go even better this year. His long driving off the tee will set him up with plenty of short irons into the greens and also give him chances to eagle the par 5s on the course.

This is clearly a course that Bubba loves and one that he feels he can win on as he is travelling to China for the third consecutive season, he is certainly one to be on the right side of this week.

Bubba missed the cut at Augusta two weeks ago and that will have really disappointed him after his previous success there. His form this season hasn’t been sparkling, but two top 40 finishes in March leave me with hope he is starting to find his feet this season. Despite not crying out as one to watch on recent form, Watson intrigues me in an event he has clearly targeted.

My other fancy for this week in Tommy Fleetwood, who returns to action after the Masters and has already won on the European Tour this season. He won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship in January, his second win on the tour and he is more than capable of adding another to that.

Fleetwood is another who missed the cut at Augusta, but back at a standard event and after a week off he is certainly of interest. Alongside winning in January, he has also registered a second-place finish at the WGC Mexico Championship, a 10th at the Arnold Palmer and a 12th at the Maybank, all forming a great year for the Englishman.

For our final tip we go for another golfer although not having the best of years has excellent form at the Shenzhen. A winner in 2015, this three time European Tour winner still sits inside the top 100 at number 88 of the OWGR. He is taken to come to life this week and at odds of 40/1 with Unibet rates as our best each way shot.

I’m expecting nothing less than a birdie fest this coming week and with plenty of good players on show, we should be in for an exciting finish over the weekend.
