Southampton play hosts to Crystal Palace at St Marys on Sunday in the Premier League, as the home side look to finish in the European spots this season.

Last time out Southampton recorded a 2-1 win at highly-flying Tottenham. The home side took the lead through a strike from South Korean international Heung-Min Son.

However, the Saints got back into the game courtesy of a double from Northern Ireland international Steven Davis. The win kept the Saints hopes of a top-six finish alive and with it their chances of earning a spot in the Europa League.

Crystal Palace sealed their place in the Premier League for next season with a 2-1 win over Stoke City last time out. Midfielder Charlie Adam gave the visitors the lead, but a second half double from striker Dwight Gayle sealed the win for the Eagles.

The win means that Palace are now eight points clear of the drop zone and can finish no lower than 16th place in the top-flight table this season.

Facts And Figures

Southampton have dominated the 13 Premier League meetings between these two sides having recorded eight wins. Four games have been drawn and Palace have won just once.

The six Premier League meetings at St Marys have seen five wins for the home side and one draw. Palace have never won at St Marys in the Premier League.

Despite Southampton’s dominance in the league, Palace have won three out of the last four meetings all competitions, although the Eagles had suffered defeat in the previous five meetings in all competitions.

Southampton have won four of their last five games in the Premier League and have suffered just one defeat in their last nine outings in the top-flight. The Saints have also won seven of their last nine home games in the Premier League.

There has been over 2.5 goals scored in four out of the Saints last five games in the Premier League.

Palace have failed to win any of their last ten Premier League away games.

Team Selection And News

Southampton have close to a fully-fit squad to choose from, but central midfielder Jordy Clasie and winger Sadio Mane are doubts. However they are expected to recover to feature in this clash and boss Ronald Koeman may name an unchanged team from last time out.

Palace are once again likely to be without striker Marouane Chamakh through injury, while Brede Hangeland and Wilfried Zaha are major doubts. Joe Ledley, Mile Jedinak and Yohan Cabaye all have knocks, but could still feature for the Eagles.

Possible Southampton Team Selection

Forster, Martina, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand, Wanyama, Clasie, Mane, Davis, Tadic, Long

Possible Crystal Palace Team Selection

Hennessey, Ward, Dann, Delaney, Souare, Puncheon, McArthur, Cabaye, Bolasie, Gayle, Wickham

Match Prediction

Southampton’s recent performances have really picked-up and they have to be favourites to win this clash. The Palace’s players’ minds will be on the FA Cup final against Manchester United and I can see them losing this clash.

Southampton carrying on to finish the season strongly and win against Palace.
