Southampton host Watford at St Marys on Wednesday night in the Premier League, as both teams seek a change of fortunes in the top-flight.
Southampton have been on a poor run of form of late and suffered a 1-0 defeat at Norwich last time out in the Premier League, as Canaries defensive midfielder Emmanuel Tettey scored the only goal of the game at Carrow Road.
Three defeats in their last four league games have seen the Saints slump down to 13th place in Premier League table. Ronald Koeman’s side is now closer to the relegation zone than they are the Champions League positions.
Watford has suffered consecutive defeats in the top-flight and last time out suffered a 2-1 home defeat against Manchester City. The Hornets took the lead through an own goal from City full-back Aleksandar Kolarov.
However, late goals from Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure sealed the points for the Citizens. The defeat means the Hornets have failed to win in three league games, but have had a difficult run of fixtures against the likes of Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester City.

Facts And Figures

These two teams have met just three times in the Premier League, with both teams claiming a win apiece and there also being a draw. The draw came earlier this season at Vicarage Road.
The only Premier League game to take place between these two at St Marys finished in a 2-0 for the Saints.
Watford have not won any of the last four meetings of these two teams in all competitions, as Southampton have recorded two wins and two games have finished in draws.
Prior to that four-game run though, Watford had claimed five consecutive victories over the Saints, which all came in the Championship.
Watford has conceded at least two goals in their last three Premier League games. Largely due to that leaky defence there has been over 2.5 goals scored in the Hornets last four top-flight games.

Team Selection & News

Southampton has a number of absentees for this clash. Midfielder Victor Wanyama is suspended and is joined on the sidelines through injury by ‘keeper Fraser Forster centre-back Florin Gardos and forward Jay Rodriguez. Full-back Cedric Soares and striker Graziano Pelle are also doubts for the Saints.
Watford have a relatively clean bill of health. Third choice ‘keeper Rene Gilmartin is joined on the sidelines through injury by defenders Tommy Hoban and Joel Ekstrand. On-loan Chelsea defender Nathan Ake is sidelined through injury. Jose Holebas should continue to deputise.

Possible Southampton team line-up: Stekelenburg, Martina, Fonte, Van Dijk, Bertrand, Clasie, Davis, Mane, Tadic, Ward-Prowse, Long

Possible Watford team line-up: Gomes, Nyom, Cathcart, Prodl, Holebas, Abdi, Capoue, Watson, Jurado, Deeney, Ighalo

Southampton v Watford Match Prediction

Neither of these two teams is in great form heading into this clash. Southampton have just failed to get going this season, as there positon in the league illustrates. Watford have gone through a difficult run of fixtures and will be looking to recover with a win on the south coast.
For me I can see these two teams cancelling each other out and this game resulting in a score draw.
