Southampton hosts Manchester United at St Marys on Sunday in the Premier League, as the visitors attempt to keep pace with rivals Manchester City at the top of the table.
Southampton recorded a 0-0 draw at West Brom last time out to continue what has been a stop-start campaign for the team from the south coast.
One positive from the game at the Hawthorns was the fact that the Saints recorded their third consecutive clean sheet, after conceding five goals in their opening two Premier League games of the season.
However, it was also the third time this season that the team from the south coast have failed to score, which will concern boss Ronald Koeman.
Manchester United got back to winning ways last time out in the league with a 3-1 victory over bitter North West rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford. Goals from Ander Herrera, Daley Blind and substitute Anthony Martial secured maximum points for Louis van Gaal’s men.
The win moved the Red Devils up to third in the Premier League table, five points behind arch-rivals and league leaders Manchester City.
The high of beating Liverpool did not last long though, as Van Gaal’s team suffered a 2-1 defeat at Dutch champions PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday night. To rub salt into the wounds England full-back Luke Shaw sustained a broken leg after a sliding tackle by PSV defender Hector Moreno.

Facts And Figures

The Red Devils have dominated the Premier League clashes between these two teams, winning 22 two of the 32 games played. The Saints have picked-up six wins and four games have been drawn.
United have also got the better record at Southampton in the Premier League, winning nine out of their 16 games on the south coast. The home side have collected five wins, while two games have been drawn.
Southampton has won just one of the last ten clashes with United in all competitions. However, that win came in a 1-0 triumph when these two teams last met at Old Trafford last season.

Team News

The Saints are still without first choice ‘keeper Fraser Forster and centre-back Florin Gardos, who both have long-term injuries. Full-back Ryan Bertrand is a doubt for the clash, as are midfielders Jordy Clasie and Gaston Ramirez.
Senegalese winger Sadio Mane started the last game on the bench, but could replace Steven Davis in the starting line-up for this clash.
Full-back Shaw will miss the clash after picking-up that horrendous injury against PSV. Argentinian international Marcos Rojo is likely to fill Shaw’s left-back position.
Defender Phil Jones and striker Wayne Rooney are both doubts. French youngster Anthony Martial made his full debut against PSV and could continue as the lone forward.

Possible Southampton line-up: Stekelenburg, Cedric, Van Dijk, Fonte, Targett, Wanyama, Ward-Prowse, Mane, Tadic, Rodriguez, Pelle

Possible Manchester United line-up: De Gea, Darmian, Smalling, Blind, Rojo, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin, Mata, Herrera, Depay, Martial

Southampton vs Manchester United Prediction

These two teams have both encountered mixed fortunes this season and this game could be a tight one. My prediction is a score draw. United are not yet at their best and neither are the Saints, so I think they could cancel each other out.
Back Southampton to draw with Manchester United at odds of 11/5
