Stoke hosts struggling Premier League champions Chelsea at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday in the Premier League late kick-off.
The Potters form has been inconsistent this season and last time out they played out a rather uneventful goalless draw at struggling Newcastle. The draw left Mark Hughes’ side in 14th position, two points and one place above Chelsea in the Premier League table.
Despite the Britannia Stadium being a fortress in past seasons, the Potters have claimed just one win on home soil this season.
The visitor’s miserable campaign continued on Saturday, as the Blues suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Liverpool, despite taking the lead after just four minutes through Brazilian midfielder Ramires.
The defeat means that the Blues have suffered six Premier League defeats this season, which is twice the number of losses they suffered in the whole of last season. Jose Mourinho’s men are 15th in top-flight table, having collected just 11 points from their 11 games.
The champions are in desperate need of a victory and Stoke have become one of their favourite opponents in recent years.

Facts And Figures

Chelsea has dominated this fixture in the Premier League, winning 11 of the 14 games played. Stoke have won once and two games have resulted in draws.
The Blues have also had the better of games at the Britannia Stadium, winning four of the seven games played. Two games have ended in draws and Stoke have won one game.
Chelsea has won six out of the last seven meetings between the two teams in the Premier League, although Stoke did defeat Jose Mourinho’s team on penalties in the Capital One Cup last time the two teams met.
Chelsea has conceded two or more goals in their last six Premier League games. There have also been over 2.5 goals scored in 11 of the Blues last 13 games in the top-flight.
However, there have been fewer than 2.5 goals scored in Stoke’s last four top-flight matches.

Team News

The home side are without Spanish centre-back Marc Muniesa and back-up ‘keeper Shay Given, both have long-term injury problems. USA international Geoff Cameron is also a doubt with a thigh injury, while Chelsea loanee Mario van Ginkel is eligible to play against his parent club.
First choice ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois remains sidelined through injury and is joined in the treatment by forward Radamel Falcao, as the Colombian has a muscle injury. Full-back Branislav Ivanovic is also a doubt for this clash, along with Spanish winger Pedro.
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho may revert to his strongest starting line-up for this one, after leaving the likes of Nemanja Matic, Eden Hazard and Cesc Fabregas on the bench in recent weeks.

Possible Stoke team line-up: Butland, Johnson, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Pieters, Adam, Whelan, Shaqiri, Bojan, Arnautovic, Diouf

Possible Chelsea team line-up: Begovic, Zouma, Terry, Cahill, Azpilicueta, Matic, Fabregas, Willian, Oscar, Hazard, Costa

Stoke v Chelsea Match Prediction

I am not quite sure what to make of these two teams this season. Stoke are inconsistent, but more often than solid, while Chelsea are playing like a team that is completely bereft of confidence. For me this could be a low scoring draw (23/10), as Stoke are defensively solid and Chelsea are struggling in front of goal.
