Stoke play hosts to Swansea at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday in the Premier League, with the visitors looking to move one step closer to securing their top-flight status.

Stoke recorded a 2-1 win at Watford last time out in the Premier League. Jonathan Walters opened the scoring for the Potters, before Spanish striker Joselu doubled their lead. Troy Deeney got a goal back for the Hornets late on, but Mark Hughes side held on to collect maximum points.

The Potters are now eighth position in the Premier League table, just five points off fourth-place despite an inconsistent campaign in the top-flight. The side from Staffordshire are also just four points off the Europa League spots.

Swansea moved closer to securing their Premier League status for next season by winning 1-0 against Aston Villa last time out, with centre-back Federico Fernandez scoring the only goal of the game.

The Welsh side are currently 15th position in the Premier League, ten points clear of the relegation zone after flirting with the bottom three for much of the campaign. Three wins in their last four top-flight games have moved Francesco Guidolin’s side away from the drop zone.

A win in this game would likely confirm the Welsh sides place in the Premier League for next season.

Facts And Figures

The nine Premier League encounters between these two teams have been relatively close, with Stoke recording four wins, Swansea winning three games and two games resulting in draws.

The four Premier league meetings at the Britannia Stadium have seen Stoke record three wins and one game has finished in a draw.

Swansea have won just one of the previous five meetings of these two teams in all competitions.

Stoke have suffered one defeat in their last six games in all competitions and recorded four wins in that run of games.

Swansea have won just three of their last 16 away games in the Premier League, with those wins coming at Aston Villa, Everton and Arsenal.

Team Selection And News

The home side have a number of injury concerns ahead of this clash. Reserve goalkeeper Shay Given and defenders Glen Johnson and Marc Wilson have both been ruled out through injury.

Defenders Ryan Shawcross and Erik Pieters, ‘keeper Jack Butland and midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri are all doubts. Danish ‘keeper Jakob Haugaard could make his Premier League debut.

The visitors have a few injury doubts heading to Staffordshire. Defenders Neil Taylor and Stephen Kingsley, as well as forward Andrew Ayew are doubts for the Swansea. Kyle Naughton may start at left-back, if Kingsley and Taylor both fail to recover in time to feature.

Possible Stoke City Team Selection

Haugaard, Bardsley, Cameron, Wollscheid, Muniesa, Whelan, Imbula, Walters, Afellay, Arnautovic, Joselu

Possible Swansea City Team Selection

Fabianski, Rangel, Fernandez, Williams, Naughton, Cork, Ki, Barrow, Fer, Sigurdsson, Paloschi

Match Prediction

Swansea’s form has improved of late and they will travel to the Potteries in good spirits. Stoke have been inconsistent and are slightly unpredictable. I can see this being a tight game with the home side claiming a narrow win.
