Relegation-threatened Sunderland hosts Chelsea at the Stadium of Light on Saturday in the Premier League, as the home side looks for a crucial victory at the bottom of the table.

Sunderland claimed a valuable 1-1 draw at Stoke City last time out. The Black Cats looked to be heading for defeat after Marko Arnautovic opened the scoring for the Potters, but a stoppage-time penalty from Jermaine Defoe earned the side from the north east a point.

Despite the draw Sam Allardyce’s team dropped into the relegation zone and are now a point behind arch-rivals Newcastle, but have a game in-hand and superior goal difference.

Chelsea came back from two goals down against London rivals Spurs to earn a 2-2 draw last time out. Tottenham established a two lead in the first half through goals from Harry Kane and Heung-Min Son.

However, the Blues came back into the game with second half goals from Gary Cahill and Eden Hazard. The draw means that the former-champions are now in ninth position in the Premier League and looking forward to the end of a difficult campaign.

Facts And Figures

Chelsea have dominated the 29 Premier League meetings between these two teams recording 21 wins, while Sunderland have won on six occasions and two games have resulted in draws.

Chelsea have also dominated the 14 Premier League meetings at the Stadium of Light, winning nine times, while Sunderland have won three times and two games have finished in draws.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has a poor managerial record against Chelsea. The former-West Ham boss has faced West Ham on 25 occasions suffering 16 defeats, picking-up six draws and recording just three wins.

Sunderland have won just one of their last nine games in the Premier League. The Black Cats have also won just one of their last seven games at home in the Premier League.

Chelsea have won just two of their last seven games in the Premier League. However, the Blues have won four out of their last five away games in the top-flight and scored two or more in all four wins.

Team Selection And News

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has the luxury of a fully-fit squad to choose from for this vital clash, but could opt for an unchanged starting line-up from last time out.

The visitors are back to close to their full complement of players with just centre-back Kurt Zouma and striker Loic Remy ruled out through injury.

Winger Eden Hazard may start this game in place of Pedro, after the Belgian came off the bench against Spurs to score the equalising goal. Thibaut Courtois is available again after suspension and could also return to the starting line-up.

Possible Sunderland Team Selection

Mannone, Yedlin, Kone, Kaboul, Van Aanholt, Kirchhoff, Borini, M’Vila, Cattermole, Khazri, Defoe

Possible Chelsea Team Selection

Courtois, Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta, Mikel, Matic, Willian, Fabregas, Hazard, Costa

Match Prediction

The home side have been drawing far too many games of late and are in desperate need of a win. Chelsea have little to play for, but their recent form has not been terrible. This could be yet another Black Cats draw.
