Sunderland play hosts to champions elect Leicester at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League early kick-off on Sunday in a crucial game at the top and bottom of the league.

Sunderland were left frustrated last time out in the Premier League as they drew 0-0 with West Brom at the Stadium of Light. The Black Cats had chances to win the game, but were left to rue missed opportunities.

The Black Cats are now four points away from safety, although they do have a game in-hand on 17th place Norwich. The side from the north east have now drawn their last four games in the Premier League.

Leicester moved seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a 1-0 win against Southampton last time out. The goalscorer was an unlikely one as centre-back Wes Morgan popped-up to score the only goal of the game.

The Foxes are now regarded as clear favourites to win the Premier League title and a win in this clash would make their dream of being crowned English in May a reality.

Facts And Figures

These two teams have met 11 times in the Premier League, with Leicester recording four wins, Sunderland winning twice and five games being drawn.

However, the five games at the Stadium of Light have seen Sunderland win twice and five games drawn.

Leicester have won just one of the last eight games meetings with the side from the north east in all competitions, but that win came in a 4-2 win in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Black Cats boss Sam Allardyce has a decent record against Leicester. The former-West Ham boss has faced the Foxes on nine occasions, losing just once, drawing three times and recording five wins.

Sunderland have failed to win any of their last five games in the Premier League.

The Foxes have won their last four Premier League games all by a 1-0 score-line.

The side from the Midlands have kept a clean sheet in their last four games in the Premier League.

Team Selection And News

Sunderland’s only injury worry is young forward Duncan Watmore, who has an ankle injury. The Black Cats may recall Dame N’Doye as they search for more firepower in front of goal with Fabio Borini the player likely to miss out.

Leicester midfielder Matthew James has yet to feature this season and is lacking match practice so is unlikely to face the Black Cats. Versatile Ghana international Jeffrey Schlupp is also a doubt. Leicester are likely to go with a familiar starting line-up.

Possible Sunderland Team Selection

Mannone, Yedlin, Kone, Kaboul, Van Aanholt, Kirchhoff, N’Doye, Cattermole, M’Vila, Khazri, Defoe

Possible Leicester Team Selection

Schmeichel, Simpson, Huth, Morgan, Fuchs, Mahrez, Kante, Drinkwater, Albrighton, Okazaki, Vardy

Match Prediction

Leicester have been grinding out victories in recent games and I expect them to exactly the same in clash. In truth Sunderland have played pretty well in recent weeks, but they have not been able to pick-up wins and I can see the Foxes securing a narrow win in the north east.
