Sunderland hosts Norwich at the Stadium of Light on Saturday in the Black Cats first Premier League home game of the new season.
The home side suffered a nightmare start to their Premier League campaign, losing 4-2 at Leicester City. The Black Cats were three goals down by the 25th minute at the King Power. Dick Advocaat’s side produced a far better performance in the second half though.
That second half performance will give Black Cats fans some hope that better displays lay ahead this season. The side from the north east will see this game as an ideal opportunity to get their season back on track.
Norwich suffered a 3-1 home defeat against Crystal Palace in their first game back in the top-flight. Palace were impressive, but the Canaries will know that they will have to raise their game in their future Premier League encounters.
A trip to the Stadium of Light will not seem like a daunting one and the Canaries will be looking at picking up their first points of the season in the north east.

Facts And Figures

Team News

The home side have doubts over the fitness of new signing Yann M’Vila and Spanish playmaker Jordi Gomez. Black Cats boss Advocaat may decide to shake things up a bit after the opening day defeat.
Scottish striker Steven Fletcher could come in up front, with Lee Cattermole possibly dropping down to the bench. Right-back Adam Matthews may come into the team in place of Billy Jones.
Norwich have doubts over the fitness of full-back Martin Olsson and striker Kyle Lafferty. Summer signing Youssouf Mulumbu is a relative long-term injury casualty.
The Canaries started with Lewis Grabban up front against Palace, but first choice striker Cameron Jerome is now fully-fit after recovering from a knock and only making a substitute appearance against Palace.
Winger Nathan Redmond came on and scored against Palace he could replace Graham Dorrans in the line-up for this clash.

Possible Sunderland line-up: Pantilimon, Matthews, Coates, Kaboul, Van Aanholt, Johnson, Larsson, Rodwell, Lens, Fletcher, Defoe

Possible Norwich line-up: Ruddy, Whittaker, Martin, Bassong, Brady, Tettey, Johnson, Howson, Redmond, Hoolahan, Jerome

Sunderland may have suffered defeat in their opening game, but their second half display suggested that they are far more capable than their first half showing. The Black Cats will be hopeful of picking-up their first points of the season against the new boys.
I think Sunderland may just edge this game. The Canaries discovered how hard it is to play in the Premier League with that opening day defeat and I do not believe it will get any easier for the side from Norfolk.

Our Big Match Tip

Back Sunderland to win with William Hills odds are currently 11/8.
