Struggling Sunderland host Tottenham at the Stadium of Light in the Premier League early kick-off on Sunday, with both teams in search of their first Premier League victory of the season.
Sunderland have made a poor start to their Premier League campaign, losing their opening two games and drawing their last two. The Black Cats currently sit bottom of the table on goal difference.
The last two performances have been an improvement on the opening displays and last time out Dick Advocaat’s side drew 2-2 at Aston Villa. That draw followed a 1-1 home draw with Swansea at the Stadium of Light.
The north east side strengthened their squad towards the end of the summer transfer window by bringing in right-back Deandre Yedlin from Spurs on-loan and signing former-loanee Fabio Borini on a permanent deal from Liverpool in a deal worth £10million.
Former-Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe has already scored twice for the Black Cats this season and will be looking to add to that tally against his old team.
Tottenham have opened their campaign in a sluggish manner and have drawn their last three top-flight clashes, after losing their opening game of the season. Last time out Mauricio Pochettino’s side drew 0-0 with Everton at White Hart Lane.
Prolific England striker Harry Kane has yet to find the net this season, but a goal as a substitute for England against San Marino may just lift his confidence for this clash.
Tottenham were frustrated in on deadline day, as West Brom rebuffed offers for England under-21 striker Saido Berahino. But they should be buoyed up by the fact they did land Son Heung-Min for a fee of £18,000,000.
