Ryder Cup 2016 Betting Preview, Tips and Odds

The pinnacle of team action in golf – the Ryder Cup will be the focus of everyone in the golfing world as the 41st edition of this prestigious tournament will be played in the United States from September 30th to October 2nd.

Ryder Cup Venue
Hazeltine National GC, Chaska, MN, USA

Played once every two years between teams representing the United States and Europe, this edition will be played at Minnesota. Despite the contests being regularly played by the best players across the globe, there is no prize money involved. But there is no shortage of passion and enthusiasm among the players which explains the popularity of this contest.

The first ever Ryder Cup tournament was played in 1927 and started as a team competition between England and United States. It was only from 1979 that the England team was expanded to include other nations and became ‘Team Europe’. And that probably tipped the scales towards Europe.

Ten outright wins since 1979 along with one tied match – which resulted in Europe keeping the title as holders – gives them a slight edge over the United States who have won seven times.

Each team will have 12 players selected on their rankings with certain slots reserved as captain picks – Europe captain chooses three while the United States captain picks four of his own to complete the team. The format is unique with the first couple of days played over four-balls and foursomes while the final day is reserved for singles matches.

In all, 28 matches will be played between teams with each match worth a point. Any match that ends in a draw will see points shared between teams and any team that wins 14 ½ points will win the title. Europe, as holders, will need just 14 points to retain the Cup.

This year’s tournament will be played at the famous Hazeltine National Golf Club situated in Minnesota. The course that was designed by the famous architect Robert Trent Jones and opened in 1962, the Hazeltine has a total yardage of 7, 628 yards with a par-score of 72. The course has already etched its name in the annals of golf history having hosted every premier Championship offered by the USGA and the PGA of America.

This year line-up includes the best players on both sides. The US team captained by Davis Love III has Dustin Johnson, Matt Kuchar, Ricky Fowler and Jordan Spieth among others. The Europe team captained by Darren Clarke has seasoned professionals like Sergio Garcia, Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and Danny Willett among others. Europe has always based its success around their formidable strength in team matches while the United States edges ahead in the singles play.

The United States are the hot favourites to win the Ryder Cup at odds of 4/7 offered by Coral bookmaker, which is a reflection on home advantage and world rankings of the teams! But Europe seem to have a habit of defying the odds especially in Ryder Cups having won six of the last seven. It wouldn’t be a huge risk to back them do it again at odds of 15/8 with Betway to lift the trophy.

Who will win the Ryder Cup this year? – BOUK recommended tips for the Ryder Cup 2016

On reflection of recent form we have to side heavily with Europe to retain their dominance in the Ryder Cup. They are fantastic odds with Betway @15/8 to lift the trophy once more. Rory Mcilroy is flying with two wins in the FedEx Cup play-offs which saw him deny Dustin Johnson the $10,000,000 bonus. Johnson looked odds on to win the title until a collapse on the final day at the Tour Championship saw Rory sneak it with a play-off win against Ryan Moore and Kevin Chappell.

On a side note, congratulations to Moore on making the Ryder Cup team courtesy of David Love’s final wildcard pick.

Other interesting tips for the Ryder Cup to look at are the top points scorer for the USA and European teams. Our predictions are that Dustin Johnson will get over losing the FedEx Cup and be the top American this week at the best odds of 4/1 with Betway.

Our tip for the top European goes to Rory Mcilroy who is likely to feature in all five matches so therefore has the best chance to come out as top European player at this year’s Ryder Cup. He too is a best priced 4/1 with Ladbrokes.

These are alternatives to our main tip for the Ryder Cup, Europe are too big to not have a decent bet on.
