Venue & Prize Fund
Regnum Carya Golf & Spa Resort, Antalya, Turkey • Purse: £7,000,000

The Turkish Airlines Open is an annual golfing tournament that has been played since 2013. With a total prize fund of US$7million, this tournament which was the brainchild of the Turkish Golf Federation and Turkish Airlines has become a key event on the European Tour schedule.

The first three tournaments were played at the Montgomerie Maxx Royal but from this year, the Turkish Airlines Open will be played at the Carya Golf Club. This year’s event will also be the first of the three tournaments in the 2016 Final Series of the European Tour, with the Nedbank Golf Challenge and the DP World Tour Championship completing the triad.

The host of this year’s edition will be the Regnum Carya Golf and spa resort. The exquisite locale of this course is highlighted by the immaculate white sand beach overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

It was designed by Thomson Perrett & Lobb, founded by five-time British Open Champion Peter Thompson. A naturally beautiful golf course that is set on undulating sand hills, the 7,223-yard course plays to a par-score of 72. Each hole at this wonderfully crafted course is a strategic delight with the fast and large greens rewarding those who can think on their feet.

The tournament was under a shadow of suspicion as Turkey went through a wave of deadly bomb attacks in the past 18 months. It has even led to the withdrawal of Rory McIlroy even though the Irish superstar was not forthright in blaming the attacks. Whatever is the case, his chances of grabbing a third successive ‘Race to Dubai’ look bleaker. The leader on points Danny Millett will be the star attraction this week.

The likes of Lee Westwood and Bernd Wiesberger make’s sure this field has an element of quality about it. Willett was the leader of the Race to Dubai until Stensons fine showing at the WGC last week took him in to the lead. Willett will be looking to make amends for his poor performance at the HSBC Champions.

Also in the fray is Anirban Lahiri of India who must be smarting from his inability to close out on a memorable PGA Tour win just recently. Among the dark horses, he could be the one to finish on top of the pile.

Notables worth keeping an eye on are Padraig Harrington and Marc Warren. Harrington will be buoyed by his first victory on the European Tour in eight years although he did claim victory on the PGA Tour in the 2015 Honda Classic. Will he have to wait another eight years only time will tell. Warrens tour status was in jeopardy until a fine 5th place finish at the Alfred Dunhill Links secured his card he has carried on that form in his next two tournaments with T22 and T12 finishes.

Last year’s action saw Victor Dubuisson of France win his second Turkish Airlines Open with a birdie on the final hole. Jaco Van Zyl was one shot back in second while McIlroy finished in 16th place.

It will be a tough task for Dubuisson to capture his third title here but don’t rule that out either.

The withdrawals of Tiger Woods and McIlroy may have taken some sheen off the field but the excitement for the Turkish Airlines Open is still very high. Will there be a twist in the Race to Dubai? Read on to find out who our expert tipster thinks will win the Turkish Airline Open.

Golf Tips For The Turkish Airlines Open

This week we are only putting up two tips for you, as try as hard as we could to find a decent outsider for you the value just was not there. Of the players at top of the betting market Tyrrell Hatton appeals the most. Recent winner of the Alfred Dunhill Links he has become a lot more consistent in the last two years and has to rate the main danger with some of the big boys not attending this year. He followed that win up with a T9 at the British Masters before finishing T23 at the WGC in China last week. He currently sits 5th in the Race to Dubai.

The South African Richard Sterne is our next selection for the Turkish Open. he has been hovering around the top ten all season after rediscovering his form. He dropped as low as 406th in the world rankings but has quickly moved back to the top 150 in recent weeks. This six time winner on the European Tour can get back to winning ways this week at odds of 35/1. Back two points each way @35/1.
