March 15th and 16th UEFA Champions League last 16 Matches

The remaining second legs of the Champions League last-16 take place this week. Some of Europe’s biggest clubs clash to see who will take their place in the quarter-finals of Europe’s elite competition. Here we take a look at the last-16 ties still left to play with our betting preview and give you an idea of the best tip for each of the matches.

Manchester City v Dynamo Kiev (Kick-off 7:45)

Manchester City’s campaign has been plagued by inconsistency, especially in the Premier League. However, their saving grace this season has been their European campaign, where they have won five of their last games, including beating Dynamo 3-1 in Kiev in the first leg of this tie.

The Citizens have also been highly prolific in the Champions League, scoring two or more goals in their last six European games. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have also scored in seven of their last nine games in the competition.

Dynamo Kiev have been inconsistent of late, but may be less ring-rusty when they face City at the Etihad Stadium. Sergey Rebrov’s side had not played a competitive game in three months prior to the first leg.

Dynamo have a better away record than home in the Champions League, recording four wins from their last nine games on their travels in the competition. The Ukrainian side have scored in their last nine away games in the Champions League, so they cannot be completely written-off in this tie.

However, City will be big favourites to win this game and the tie. I can see the Citizens recording a narrow victory in this clash.

Match Odds:   Manchester City 8/13   –   Draw 7/2   –   Dynamo Kiev 11/2

Atletico Madrid v PSV Eindhoven (Kick-off 7:45)

The first leg behind these two teams in Eindhoven finished goalless, but the home side look to be favourites to progress to the last eight of the competition. Atletico are again enjoying a strong campaign, second in La Liga and unbeaten in their last five games in the Champions League.

Atleti have a strong recent record in Europe’s elite competition, especially at the Vicente Calderon where they have lost just one of their last nine in the competition. Six of those games have seen victories for Diego Simeone’s men.

The visitors were surprise qualifiers for the last-16, but held their own in the first leg at home. The trip to the Calderon will represent a completely different challenge, especially as their away record in this competition is poor.

Philip Cocu’s side have suffered six defeats in their last nine away games, winning just twice in the same period. Their last away win in this competition came in 2013 against Belgian side Zulte-Waregem in the Champions League play-off.

The Dutch champions have suffered four defeats from their last five away games in the Champions League, drawing the other game. The omens do not bode well for a PSV win in Madrid. It would be a major surprise if PSV produced the result they need to make it through to the next phase of the competition. Atletico should prove far too strong for the Dutch side, especially at the Vicente Calderon.

Match Odds:   Atletico Madrid 1/3   –   Draw 9/2   –   PSV Eindhoven 12/1

Barcelona v Arsenal (kick-off 7:45)

Barcelona recorded a 2-0 victory at the Emirates Stadium in the first leg of this tie, with Lionel Messi scoring a brace.

The men from Catalonia have looked unstoppable this season and recently broke a Spanish record of 36 games unbeaten in all competitions. It goes without saying they are unbeaten in this seasons Champions League, winning five of their last seven games in the competition.

The holders have in fact suffered just one defeat in their last 18 Champions League games. That defeat came at Bayern Munich in the second leg of the semi-finals of the competition last season, after Luis Enrique’s side had already won the first leg 3-0.

The European champions have been prolific in this competition in the past few seasons, scoring at least two goals in 16 of their last 19 Champions League games.

Arsenal’s form has taken a slight dip of late, with injury problems and poor form hampering Arsenal performances. The Gunners scraped through to the last-16 and making it past the European champions was always going to be a big task.

Arsenal’s record in this competition is not great, as the Gunners have won just four of their last nine games in the Champions League. The north London side have also suffered five defeats in that period. Their poor form early in the group stages meant the Gunners were handed a tough draw in the knockout stages.

Barcelona’s last home defeat in the Champions League came back in 2013 against Bayern Munich. The Catalan giants have won nine straight home games in this competition and I expect that run to extend to ten in this clash.

Match Odds:   Barcelona 1/4   –   Draw 6/1   –   Arsenal 12/1

Bayern Munich v Juventus (Kick-off 7:45)

These two European giants could not be separated in the first leg at the Juventus Stadium, as they drew 2-2 and this game promises to be another fascinating encounter.

The home side’s form since their return from the winter break has been inconsistent, but their form in the Champions League has been pretty good, as they have won six of their last eight games in Europe’s elite competition.

Pep Guardiola’s side have also been highly-prolific in this competition, scoring at least two goals in seven of their last eight games in this competition.

Juventus endured a terrible start to their domestic campaign, but the Bianconeri’s form recent form has been fantastic. Despite that good form in Serie A, Max Allegri’s side have won just once in their last five Champions League games, although three of those games have been drawn.

The side from Turin have failed to score in three of their last five games in the competition, but the Italian champions will take heart from the two goals scored in the first leg against the Bavarians. Allegri’s side have also scored at least two goals in four out of their last five games in all competitions.

Bayern’s record at the Allianz Arena in the Champions League is outstanding, as Guardiola’s side have won their previous nine home games in this competition.

This is a difficult game to predict, but I do believe that the German champions will record a narrow victory in this clash.

Match Odds:   Bayern Munich 1/2   –   Draw 15/4   –   Juventus 7/1
