Wales v Belgium Quarter Final Betting Preview Euro 2016

Wales and Belgium go head-to-head in the quarter-final of Euro 2016 in Lille, with both teams hoping to make it to the European Championship for the first time.

Wales made it through to the quarter-finals with a win over Northern Ireland, but are underdogs to win this game at odds of 5/1 with Boyle Sports.

The Dragons in their debutant European Championships made it through to the last eight of the competition with a 1-0 win over Northern Ireland. Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey saw a goal disallowed in the first half.

However, Wales did not take the lead until 75th minute. Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale whipped in a superb cross and Northern Ireland defender Gareth McAuley stuck his leg out and diverted the ball past Michael McGovern. Bale will be looking to add to his tally of three goals and two assists in France.

Belgium hammered Hungary in the round of 16 and are favourites to win this clash at odds of 3/ 4 with William Hill.

The Red Devils made it through to the quarter-finals with a convincing 4-0 win over Hungary. Belgium took the lead in the first half through a header from Toby Alderweireld.

Marc Wilmots team doubled their lead on 78 minutes through substitute Michy Batshuayi and Eden Hazard added a third just a minute later. Another Belgian substitute Yannick Carrasco added the fourth in stoppage-time.

Past Meetings

These two countries have met on 12 previous occasions, with Belgium recording five wins, Wales winning four times and three games being drawn.

The most recent meetings came in qualifying for Euro 2016, Wales winning once and the other game finishing in a draw. The two teams also met in qualifying for World Cup ’98, with Belgium winning twice.

The two teams also met in qualifying for World Cup 2014 with Belgium winning once and the other game finishing in a draw.

The only time these two teams have met in competitive action in the European Championships was in qualifying for Euro ’92, Wales winning once and the other game finishing in a draw.

Team and Selection News

Wales have maintained a pretty steady starting line-up throughout the group stages, but centre-back Ashley Williams is a doubt. The Swansea defender is likely to recover in time to play, but James Collins is on standby to fill-in if he does not make it.

Belgium are without former-Arsenal centre-back Thomas Vermaelen through suspension. Manchester City youngster Jason Denayer may come in to replace the centre-back, although Laurent Ciman could come in and Jan Vertonghen could move to the centre of defence.

Possible Wales team line-up: Hennessey, Chester, Williams, Davies, Gunter, Allen, Ledley, Taylor, Ramsey, Bale, Vokes

Possible Belgium team line-up: Courtois, Meunier, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Ciman, Nainggolan, Witsel, Mertens, De Bruyne, Hazard, Lukaku

Betting Tip
Both these teams have produced impressive displays in France and Belgium look to just be finding their stride in the competition, while Wales were slightly fortunate to beat Northern Ireland. For me Belgium will have just a bit too much individual talent and record a narrow victory.
