Watford host Stoke City at Vicarage Road on Saturday in the Premier League, as two midtable meet in an attempt to move further up the table.

Watford recorded a surprise 2-1 win at Arsenal in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Saturday last time out. Their form in the Premier League has not been great in recent weeks and last time out in the top-flight the Hornets suffered a 1-0 home defeat against league leaders, as Riyad Mahrez grabbed the own goal of the game. The Hornets are now 14th in the top-flight table.

Nigerian international Odion Ighalo has enjoyed a good campaign so far and ended a seven game goal draught with the opening goal against Arsenal, which took his goal tally in all competitions this season to 16.

Stoke’s inconsistent campaign continued on Saturday, as the Potters suffered a 2-1 defeat against Southampton at the Britannia Stadium. The result means that the Potters are now ninth in the Premier League table and still in with an outside chance of claiming a Europa League spot this season.

Stoke’s Austrian international winger Marko Arnautovic is enjoying the best season of his professional career, having scored his tenth league goal of the season in the defeat against Southampton. The former-Werder Bremen star has also produced four assists this season.

Facts And Figures

These two teams have met just once in the Premier League, which was the reverse fixture earlier this season that was won by Watford.

Watford are unbeaten in the last six meetings with Stoke in all competitions, recording four wins and two draws.

Stoke’s last victory against Watford came at Vicarage Road, but that was back in 2004 when the two teams were in the second tier. Stoke have won three of their last five visits to Watford, suffering just one defeat.

Watford have failed to score in five of their last six games in the Premier League.

The Hornets have also won just one of their last six games at home in the Premier League, which was in January against relegation-threatened Newcastle.

Stoke have won just one of their last five away games in the Premier League, suffering three defeats in the process.

Team Selection And News

Watford are still likely to be without young defender Tommy Hoban and Joel Ekstrand, while centre-back Miguel Britos and Spanish playmaker Juan Manuel Jurado remain doubtful. Heurelho Gomes should return in goal, although Adlene Guedioura could retain his place in the starting line-up.

Stoke are without injured defensive duo Mark Wilson, Glen Johnson and Phil Bardsley, while Charlie Adam and Xherdan Shaqiri are doubtful with the latter expected to recover in time to feature in this clash.

Possible Watford Team Selection

Gomes, Nyom, Cathcart, Prodl, Ake, Behrami, Capoue, Watson, Guedioura, Deeney, Ighalo

Possible Stoke City Team Selection

Butland, Cameron, Shawcross, Wollscheid, Pieters, Whelan, Imbula, Shaqiri, Afellay, Arnautovic, Diouf

Match Prediction

Neither of these teams are in great form, but Watford’s win against Arsenal in the FA Cup should lift the mood amongst the players, while Stoke’s defeat against Southampton may have the opposite effect. For me the home side may just have enough to win this clash.
