Watford last game of the season see’s them host Sunderland at Vicarage Road on Sunday in the Premier League, as both teams look to finish their top-flight campaigns on a positive note.

Watford suffered a 4-2 defeat at Norwich last time out. The Hornets actually took an early lead through captain Troy Deeney, before Dieumerci Mbokani levelled the scores and Nathan Redmond gave the home side the lead.

A Craig Cathcart own goal gave the Canaries a two goal lead, but Odion Ighalo reduced the deficit. However, the home side were not to be denied the win and Mbokani hit his second of the night to confirm the win for the side from Norfolk.

Despite the defeat the Hornets are comfortably in midtable in the Premier League and Quique Sanchez Flores’ team could finish as high as 11th in the table this season. Speculation continues about Flores future as Hornets boss.

Sunderland have pulled-off yet another great escape from relegation, as a 3-0 win at home against Everton last time out confirmed their top-flight status for next season. The Black Cats took the lead through an effort by full-back Patrick van Aanholt.

Centre-back Lamine Kone then bagged a brace to wrap-up a memorable win for the side from the north east that secures their safety for another season.

Sam Allardyce’s side are now guaranteed to finish in 17th spot in the Premier League table and the Black Cats fans will be hoping for a more comfortable campaign next season.

Facts And Figures

These two teams have only ever met three times in the Premier League, with Sunderland winning twice and Watford once in the reverse fixture earlier this season.

Sunderland also won the only previous Premier League meeting between these two teams at Vicarage Road.

Sunderland boss Sam Allardyce has a decent record against the Hornets. The former-West Ham boss has faced them on five occasions, winning three times, recording a draw and losing just once.

Watford have won just one of their last five home games in the Premier League. The Hornets have also won just two of their last 11 Premier League games, suffering seven defeats in the process.

Team Selection And News

The home side are likely to be without defenders Tommie Hoban and Joel Ekstrand, as well as midfielders Etienne Capoue and Valon Behrami all through injury. Quique Sanchez Flores may make changes to his starting line-up from last time out.

Sunderland are likely to be unchanged for this clash, as Sam Allardyce has had a settled starting line-up of late. If the former-West Ham boss decided to make changes he has a fully-fit squad to choose from.

Possible Watford Team Selection

Gomes, Parades, Prodl, Cathcart, Ake, Abdi, Suarez, Watson, Jurado, Deeney, Ighalo

Possible Sunderland Team Selection

Mannone, Yedlin, Kone, Kaboul, Van Aanholt, Kirchhoff, Borini, M’Vila, Cattermole, Khazri, Defoe

Match Prediction

Neither side have much to play for in this end of season clash. Watford’s home form has been poor of late and Sunderland’s recent form has performed. I think that the Black Cats may just nick the win in this clash.
