Venue & Prize Fund
Atlantic Beach Country Club, Atlantic Beach, FL • Purse: $1,000,000

After the exhilaration of representing their teams in the Ryder Cup, the next generation of PGA Tour players will battle it out at the Web.com Tour Championship played from the October 6th -9th at the Atlantic Beach, Florida. It will feature the top 75 players from the Web.com Tour regular season money list along with the players in the bracket of 126 to 200 on the PGA Tour FedEx Cup points list.

There will be intense competition not just for the prize money but also for the cards on offer with all 50 PGA Tour cards awarded for the 2016-17 season to be finalised at this tournament. The US$1million event will be the fourth and final tournament in the Web.com Tour Finals.

The venue for this year tournament is the Atlantic Beach Country Club has a rich PGA Tour tradition. The club was founded in 1958 and was then known as the Selva Marina Country Club – hosting its first tournament in 1965, the PGA Tour’s Greater Jacksonville Open.

In 2015, the site was redeveloped as Atlantic Beach Country Club by the renowned architect Erik Larsen who put together a flawless course that plays through the native North Florida ecology. The 6,815-yard par-71 course offers multiple sets of tees making it a challenging prospect for every player during the tournament.

Last year’s action saw the Argentine golfer Emiliano Grillo drain a 25-foot birdie to win in dramatic fashion and become the second youngest winner in the Tour Championship history. There is a bit of action to secure players’ exemption card with Wesley Bryan at the forefront of that battle.

Having already been exempt from the PGA Tour’s periodic status reshuffles, Bryan will look to seal his card in The Players Championship. He will feel the threat from a clutch of players including Grayson Murray, J.J. Spaun, Martin Flores, Ryan Brehm and former world number 1 amateur Ollie Schniederjans.

The Web.com Tour Championship is a great opportunity to secure the season-long money. However, the underlying storyline will come from the battle amongst the players to earn one of the 25 coveted PGA Tour cards for the next season.

Notable names outside the Finals 25 entering this week include nine-time PGA Tour winner Stuart Appleby, Chris Baker, Ted Potter Jr. and Camilo Villegas. Notable local representatives include Baker, Ryan Blaum, Cam Smith, Steve Wheatcroft and Sebastian Cappelen.

Players to watch this week will include Blaum who has already earned his PGA Tour card via the Finals – thanks to his tied fifth position at the Albertsons Boise Open. With the monkey off his back and playing in his backyard, Blaum could be your surprise pick.

Also keep an eye on Murray who pocketed his first Web.com Tour title at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. With an exemption to the Players Championship on the line, Murray could just be your pick to crash into the top five this week at the Atlantic Beach. All this makes this event potentially a highly exciting event not to be missed.

Golf Tips For The Web.com Tour Championship

Ryan Blaum has come in to form just at the right time and can secure his first tour win and at decent odds of 30/1 with Bet 365. He is worthy of a 2pt each way bet.

The Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano is probably a golfer that many do not know much of. He has plied his trade mostly on the European Tour, but has tried his hand on the PGA Tour recently. He has promised on more than one occasion to deliver but failed to go through with his efforts.

What a great season Grayson Murray has had and he should be a great asset to the PGA Tour next year (one to keep on side). He has played 17 events this year on the Web.com Tour and missed the cut seven times, which does not sound great. But those ten cuts that he did make have yielded 7 top tens. With a win, a second place and a third place finish to boot. You would be a fool to miss out on him this week.
