West Ham play hosts to Manchester United at the Boleyn Ground on Tuesday night in the Premier League, as the visitors look to continue their challenge for a top-four spot this season. It will be West Hams last game at home before they move to The Olympic Stadium next season. Tears will be shed I am sure.

West Ham’s outside hopes of finishing in the top four this season were virtually ended on Saturday, as the Hammers suffered a surprise 4-1 defeat at home against Swansea City.

Swansea established a two lead in the first half through goals from Wayne Routledge and Andre Ayew, before midfielder Sung-Yeung Ki added a third in the second half. The Hammers got a goal back when Diafra Sakho’s effort took a deflection off Swans defender Stephen Kingsley.

However, the Welsh side’s victory was confirmed in stoppage-time by a strike from French Bafetimbi Gomis. The defeat means that the Hammers would have to win this clash to have any chance of finishing higher than sixth-place in the Premier League table.

West Ham’s challenge for the top four might be over, but Manchester United are still in the hunt after a 1-0 win at relegation-threatened Norwich last time out. In a tight game the Red Devils claimed a win courtesy of a goal from Spanish playmaker Juan Mata.

Louis van Gaal’s team are breathing down the necks of city rivals Manchester City in the race for Champions League football next season.

Facts And Figures

Manchester United have won 25 of the 39 Premier League meetings between these two teams, with ten games drawn and West Ham recording just four wins.

The 19 Premier League meetings between these two teams at the Boleyn Ground have seen Manchester United record eight wins, nine games finish in draws and West Ham claim just two wins.

Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has faced West Ham on five occasions and is unbeaten, having won two and drawn three of those five meetings.

West Ham have lost just one of their last 16 games at the Boleyn Ground in the top-flight, but that defeat of course came in their last game against Swansea.

Manchester United have won five out of their last seven Premier League games, losing just once in the process. The Red Devils have lost three of their last five away games in the top-flight though.

Team Selection And News

West Ham have a relatively clean bill of health except for Spanish ‘keeper Adrian, who looks unlikely to feature and is likely to be replaced by Darren Randolph. The Hammers may name a similar line-up to the one against Swansea.

Manchester United are without full-back Luke Shaw and midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger through injury, while midfielder Marouane Fellaini is suspended. Full-back Matteo Darmian and Anthony Martial are also both doubts for the clash.

Possible West Ham Team Selection

Randolph, Antonio, Reid, Ogbonna, Cresswell, Kouyate, Noble, Moses, Lanzini, Payet, Carroll

Possible Manchester United Team Selection

De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Blind, Rojo, Carrick, Lingard, Herrera, Rooney, Martial, Rashford

Match Prediction

These two teams could be very well matched. West Ham will want to put in a big performance with it being their last ever game at the Boleyn Ground, while United are still fighting for a Champions League spot. I can see this finishing in a draw.
