TPC Louisiana, Avondale, LA • Purse: $7,000,000

Old vintage will be on display as the Zurich Classic of New Orleans will see a bevy of international stars descend on TPC Louisiana for the tournament from April 28 – May 1. This is one of the marquee events on the PGA Tour and comes with a total purse of US $ 7 million. The winner will pocket US $ 1.26 million and 500 FedExCup points.
The tournament, established in 1938, was played at the City Park Golf Courses until 1962. From 1963 until 1988 the tournament was played out at the Lakewood Country Club.

English Turn Golf & Country Club (English Turn G & CC) played host to the tournament from 1989 until 2004. In the year 2005 it was played at the TPC of Louisiana but Hurricane Katrina forced the event to be back at the English Turn G & CC in 2006. From 2007, the event was back to TPC Louisiana.

The course at TPC Louisiana measures 7, 425 yards with a par-score of 72. Pete Dye is the designer with Steve Elkington sharing his expertise as a consultant. The course winds through more than 250 acres of Louisiana wetlands.

It features stands of cypress and oak trees with more than a fair sprinkling of bunkers and ponds. 100 bunkers and five ponds increase the challenge for the participants as do the several waste bunkers in the back nine. TPC Louisiana is often ranked among the PGA Tour’s 10 easiest courses.

Coming to the field, this year will have a plethora stars gracing the tournament with their presence. Led by world number one Jason Day and defending champion Justin Rose, the roster features three of the top 10 in the world rankings.

World number five Rickie Fowler completes that trio and will be one of those aiming for the top. Byeong Hun An, who hogged limelight as a U.S. Amateur Champion and was European Tour Rookie of the Year last season, will be making his first visit to the TPC Louisiana.

David Toms, who is a Louisiana native, will be teeing off for the 23rd time in the event, whose 2001 win at this tournament over Phil Mickelson is a story of folklore here.

Last year saw Rose finishing strong on a marathon final day finishing one stroke ahead of Cameron Tringale. Day shared the 56-lead, only to see his hopes dashed.

The world number one will be looking to bounce back from his disappointing recent reverses on the Tour to make his trip worthwhile. Rose will be attempting to become only the sixth back-to-back champion at New Orleans.

The tournament has often proved a strong springboard for first-timers with seven of the past 11 champions falling under that category. The tournament stands as the last chance for players to lock their berth in ‘The Players Championship’ by making a move into the top 50 of the World rankings or into the top 10 in FedExCup points. Who will grab the opportunity this year?

Golf Tips For The Zurich Classic of New Orleans

Justin Rose shot four rounds in the sixties last year to win this tournament by one shot from Cameron Tringale. This reflects in the betting as he is second favourite behind Jason Day at 8/1. we wre going to put up Rose but are put off by the shortish odds on offer so will look elsewhere for our first tip. Charley Hoffman won for us last week in the Valero Texas Open at 40/1. He is half those odds this week, but our motto is to stick with a player in form. So Charley Hoffman is our first tip to win The Zurich Classic.

Jonas Blixt is a golfer we have put up before and has very nearly pulled of a real coup on more than one occasion. He is very tempting at odds of 110/1+ and that is good enough reason to back him
